Coldplay featured twice on Times Online's best pop albums of the decade

arobtth1.jpgColdplay albums Viva La Vida and A Rush Of Blood To The Head [pictured] have been featured in Times Online's top 100 pop albums of the noughties published this week. You can see the full countdown here now. Below are the two Coldplay entries, at positions 71 and 17 respectively. If you want to add your comments about the countdown in full you can do so now at the Coldplay forum...

    71. Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay (Parlophone, 2002)

Proving that their debut was no fluke — and that there was more to them than “bedwetters” emoting — the likes of Politik and Clocks pushed them into the world’s biggest arenas. God Put a Smile... remains, arguably, their finest song.

    17. Viva la Vida or Death & All His Friends - Coldplay (Parlophone, 2008)

Scandalously, only on their fourth album did Coldplay discover the joys of writing and playing in a room together. Under the direction of Brian Eno, though, they sound reborn — Chris Martin’s death-fixated meditations countered at all times by the restless, rhythmic undertow of a band who many of us didn’t think had it in them to sound so life-affirming.

Comments on the Times Online chart from the Coldplay forum:

Great news... I was kind of surprised in the order, but I guess VLV gets points for the whole 'taking risks' part... I partially agree with the GPASUYF comment, I love, love, love that song! [thanks mrman78]

Woo! Viva La Vida at 17... but AROBTTH at 71?? What the fuck? Britney Spears at number 5 - enoughs enough. And two Radiohead albums in the top 3? Comparing Kid A to The White Album?? Bit far. Bias methinks! Although like one of the comments says, they've scored highly for creativity. Very traditional british bias. I'm shocked The Seldom Seen Kid is not in the top 3. At the end of the day - these top 100s are pointless. Us individuals will choose for ourselves what we think are our best albums. Oh and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face Coldplay's best song?? Don't get me wrong it's an excellent song, but that is an ill informed statement! [thanks howyousawtheworld]

I was surprised to see Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head positioned ONLY at no. 71, but pleased to see both that album and Viva la Vida ... on the list. But both should be in top 10. And I was also surprised to see Britney Spears as no. 5!! And a bit ironic with no. 71 and 17, but okay. [thanks nancyk58]

I just wanted to say that probably lots of people voted VLV just because the knew it better than AROBTTH.... if everyone vote only "good quality" music, in this chart you wouldn't find "Girls Aloud", "The Prodigy" and "Britney Spears". Still wondering why Norah Jones is not even mentioned.... [thanks LauraLaura82]
