    Coldplay take biggest selling British 2003 music release

    Coldplay’s Live 2003 was the biggest selling British music release of last year, followed by U2’s Live from Slane Castle.

     

    Coldplay, U2 and Robbie Williams have sparked a huge surge in DVD sales in Britain, figures showed today.

     

    DVDs featuring artists live in concert have helped sales almost double in the UK in the past year while there has also been major increases in sales in Ireland.Robbie Williams’ DVD of his record-breaking Knebworth gigs, What We Did Last Summer, looks set to be one of this year’s biggest sellers, shifting 46,000 copies in its first week alone.

     

    According to figures released by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), sales of music DVDs rocketed by 95% last year. Of those, 60% are of live performances.

     

    The IFPI predict that music DVD sales will continue to grow.
