Coldplay Teat U2 To REM Lunchbox

coldplaylunchbox1.jpgColdplay's Chris Martin [pictured] beat off competition from U2 frontman Bono to walk away with a lunchbox designed by REM vocalist Michael Stipe.

The two stars became embroiled in a bidding war at a charity auction in aid of the Food Bank for New York city at the Wooster Projects Gallery on Sunday night, but Martin walked away triumphant with a winning bid of US$20,000.

Bono later joked: "It was death by Coldplay."

But it wasn't all bad news for the Irish supergroup. Bono's bandmate The Edge won a lunchbox designed by former US President Bill Clinton with a winning bid of US$11,000.

The auction sold over 100 lunchboxes designed by various celebrities including Brad Pitt, Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie.
