Coldplay to be final Oxegen headliner?

oxegen2011_2.jpgCould Oxegen be the FOURTEENTH festival to see Coldplay headlining later this year? If the rumours are to be believed, yes. Irish sources are getting excited that several acts, including Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys have confirmed themselves for both festivals, and they expect Coldplay to follow suit. [thanks squibby92]

Oxegen, generally regarded as Ireland's version of the Glastonbury Festival, is taking place on the weekend of 7th-10th July in Punchestown, Ireland, coincidentally on the same weekend as T in the Park just up the road in Scotland (in worldwide festival terms, at least). Oxegen was originally a three-day festival but was expanded to four days in 2008, so there is room for one more headliner to be announced. It takes place at the Punchestown Racecourse in County Kildare, Ireland and has an average attendance of around 90,000 a day.

Keep an eye on the official site and also the Oxegen line-up page for latest confirmation. Meanwhile, speaking of festival headlining, we wonder what the appearance record is for an artist in a single summer? Hmmm...

Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters to headline the same two festivals on the same weekend?
