Coldplay To Feature In Digitally Animated Music Show

Music show debut to be highlight of expanded festival

One of the highlights of next month’s Red Stick International Animation Festival will be the debut of SonicVision, a groundbreaking digitally animated alternative music show featuring music from Radiohead, U2, David Bowie and Coldplay, at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum.

A video-game segment will target gaming enthusiasts and those looking to develop careers or businesses in animation. Panels of experts in both animation and video games will discuss the future of animation on April 20 at the Shaw Center’s Manship Theatre.Other events include:

Family oriented Cartoon-A-Palooza at 10 a.m. April 22, at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum. Children can watch Saturday morning cartoons in their pajamas while eating a continental breakfast donated by IHOP. Cartoon-A-Palooza is free and open to the public. No advance registration is necessary.

The Red Stick Animation Awards ceremony at 7 p.m. April 22. The ceremony will showcase some of the best animation at the festival. All nominated short films will be screened, and awards will be presented in student and professional competitions in the categories of 3D animation, 2D animation, abstract animation and animation for games.

Scientific visualization and animation on April 20. Much of today’s research in biology, genetics, physics and astronomy is dependent on animation and supercomputer-rendered modeling, the same type of technology used to create animated films such as “Shrek.”
