With more than 90 bands on five stages,it's hard to sort out all the great acts at the two-day Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Coachella, in a nutshell: The rock fest's two-day lineup embraces both popular bands (Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails) and emerging acts (The Bravery, Eisley, The Futureheads). Since it lasts a full weekend, many attendees camp on site, Woodstock-style. Why it matters: Big things can happen at this little summer fest. Last year's most talked-about Coachella perf

Boring, bankable, inoffensive, easily duplicated - is Coldplay the ultimate 21st-century rock'n'roll band? Big numbers sure come cheap these days. A year ago, New York's discerning culture filter The Village Voice awarded Coldplay a hefty 7.5 rating for their third album, X&Y, at the end of a review that was nothing less than damning: "Precise, bland and banal, their sensitivity emotionless and their musicality never surprising, they're the definition of a pleasant bore - easy to tune out,

We predict a riot the next time Kaiser Chiefs run into Coldplay - well, a small tiff, at least... The Kaisers' Simon Rix [pictured], whose band picked up the Best Album trophy, took a swipe at Coldplay's Chris Martin, saying the frontman hogs the limelight. Simon said: "I don't wanna cause a rift but I hate what Chris did at the Brits. He said he was going to let the drummer speak and then he took over the mic completely. He's out of order. Sounds like Mr Martin's fair trade ethics doesn't

How sweet - Coldplay dedicated a song to the man that held them off the number one slot last night, when they played to a dead sweaty and heaving Forum. Chris Martin dedicated 'Trouble' to PlayLouder Single Of The Week winner Darius Danesh, saying: "We got beaten by Darius which is fair enough because he's better. We don't mind being beaten by him because he's more handsome than us. This is for him." It's true as well. He is better. The band also found time to drop a few cover versions, incl

A new remix of Coldplay's Violet Hill, courtesy of prettymuchamazing.com, has surfaced online. Download - Violet Hill [Cryptonites remix] Meanwhile, prettymuchamazing has also shared their views on Lost and Life In Technicolor. Here's what they had to say: “Lost” sounds like more typical Coldplay fare, with a strong piano backbone and Chris Martin’s smooth crooning. However, I cannot confirm whether or not this is the acoustic version of the song (that comes with the album pre-order on iTu

Kanye West has pulled out some crackpot rants over the years - but his Coldplay theory could be one of the biggest talkers yet. The rapper, producer and fashion-daahling-designer believes Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman are as good as - if not better - than The Beatles. More discussion on this is at the Coldplay forum now. Kanye said: "America has, and probably always will, dominate music across the globe but it's always been the British who pull out that very spec

Coldplay have admitted that they are "excited" about the prospect of scoring their first ever number one UK single this weekend. Early sales of Viva La Vida, the title track from their fourth album, suggest that the band could finally shoot to the top of the singles chart on Sunday. The song was available to download before this week to those pre-ordering the band's album. Chart rules prevented it from counting towards the top 40 until Monday. Guitarist Jonny Buckland is hoping Coldplay can

Coldplay refused to speak to one another before they began work on their new album - because they'd fallen out with each other, ContactMusic are claiming this morning. Frontman Chris Martin admits he and his bandmates were at a stalemate when they started to work on Viva La Vida or Death and all his Friends in 2006. But the four musicians managed to enlist the help of superproducer Brian Eno [pictured], who Martin credits with helping to get their sound - and relationships - back on track. H

[as previously reported] 9PM - 10:30PM Often compared to the super groups U2 and Radiohead, Coldplay has managed to lure its own audience of admirers and a die hard fan base. Since the debut album Parachutes, this British alternative rock group has received a multitude of accolades including Grammy Awards and a string of Billboard 100 chart topping singles. Catch melodies, social and political driven lyrics and most notably powerful, energy-driven live performances are just a few reasons for

From £3.5m for the Stones, to considerably less for Rick Astley, booking a favourite act for your own intimate gig is now all the rage, There is still some talent that won't get out of bed and on to a plane for large sums of money though. Coldplay were offered £500,000 to sing at a birthday party at Cliveden, but even the lure of a chopper to get them there and a large donation to their favourite charity wasn't enough to get them out of the studio.
