Check out the 1997 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Sometime in 1997 Chris and I went busking in Covent Garden. It was probably the first incarnation of the band. We played Beatles songs and 'The Bear Necessities' and 'Mrs. Robinson'. We were moved on by the police (with only 20p in the hat) (which I put there). Wx   More on this here [thanks CP678]

For all Coldplay and Coldplaying.com fans, Ode to Deodorant, that long-elusive rarity, is now available for listening.   After many months of waiting and over 120 pages of discussion by fans on the Coldplaying.com messageboard, the elusive and -- until now -- rarely heard demo tape of Ode to Deodorant has at last been uploaded!   Accompanied by the earliest version of Brothers and Sisters, "Ode" has until now been unavailable to most fans for listening. The amusing lyrics are accompanied by w

Check out the 2006 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Talk Remix by Stuart Price (The thin white duke) This is a wierd song for us, why I don't know... but we like the remix much better. Also Stuart's remix of Mr Brightside is just about the best thing ever. Uk Celebs and Coldplay band members turn up for Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's son Moses' belated birthday party.   They waited until Coldplay returned to the UK - where they were preparing to release new album 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' - to give Moses his birthday presents. "His daddy is in London. So we're going to do presents when we can all be together," Gwyneth Paltrow said prior to the bash.   More on this here

“I can tell this is gonna be a good one,” Chris Martin declared just two songs into Coldplay’s rousing tour kickoff Monday night at the Forum, the band’s first of two shows at the hallowed arena.   Even at that point, after the crowd erupted for “Violet Hill,” singing along as if its melody were as ingrained as those of “Clocks” or “Yellow,” it wasn’t hard to determine why Martin felt so optimistic. Here, like at no Southern California show the quartet has played, you could feel waves of ecstasy

Check out the 2000 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   12 September 2000 - Mercury Awards We were nominated for the Mercury Award for 'Parachutes'. Among the other nominees were Richard Ashcroft, Doves, Leftfield, and Badly Drawn Boy who eventually won it. It was our first awards ceremony and we had to play in front of all the other bands without Jonny who was ill. Musicians make for a very tough audience, especially drunk musicians. Check out the 2005 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Acoustic session for The Edge in Toronto - 10 May 2005 Playing Toronto is one of life's biggest buzzes I think, and this time was no exception. We had a police horse escort, which I enjoyed so much I now get one everywhere, even just nipping down the shops. Check out the 1999 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Bigger Stronger video: September 1999 We asked our friend Mat Whitecross to do a video for us. Originally he wrote the treatment for Spies, but when we changed it to Bigger Stronger it was too late. Mat is now a very famous film maker (Road to Guantanemo) and needless to say, his work has got much better! WC   More on this here [thanks Loretin & pallavi]

Check out coldplay.com for more new content on the Coldplay timeline. The two newly-added pieces are a bunch of pictures from the 'X&Y' album launch gig at London's Round Chapel in April 2005 and a video of Elton John making a guest appearance with Coldplay in March 2003. As ever, follow the little orange stars to find them...   More on this here [thanks doritji]

Check out the 2000 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Cover of Select Magazine - 2000 This was the last issue of Select ever printed. It was also the first time I ever said anything vaguely interesting in an interview. The interviewer Dorian was a really nice guy and I didn't mind telling him things that were actually meaningful and that I knew wouldn't be misrepresented. W x   More on this here [thanks alio]

Check out the 1999 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Bull & Gate Gig - 1st April 1999 This was probably the gig that got us signed. It was a one-off show for Fierce Panda which coincided with the release of the Brothers & Sisters EP. There were mainly 'industry' types. Simon Williams who ran Fierce Panda consistently stuck his neck out for us and for that we are eternally grateful. WC   You can discuss this star here onwards [thanks fixed]

Jay Z is playing Glastonbury this year (2008) and I think that's the best idea since Radiohead in 1997. Anyway we played the fete and we were not too shit. Chris Martin, was at Abbey Studios with U2 for a while on 18th September and had some time to talk to fans.   Chris chatted to us and allowed photos etc. Then said he had to get home. So he walked across the street and commenced walking alone to wherever his house is. No bodyguards no nothing.   For more on this story and to see the pictures of Chris Martin & U2 click here

Check out the 2005 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Trip to Ghana: March 2005 Before X&Y came out we went to Ghana to revise for the Fairtrade campaign that we wanted to promote. Apart from our plane nearly crashing, it was pretty incredible. In the same way as when we went to Haiti in 2002, it was both inspiring and terrifying. We met a lot of cool people, and saw what a difference fairtrade can make. CM   More on this here

Check out the 2003 section of Coldplay.com for a new star.   Clocks remix by Röyksopp <- very talented In Australia this climbed the pop charts which the other version didn't really. Our songs don't really climb the charts so much as land on the ladder and slide slowly down. Check out the 2008 section of Coldplay.com for a new Prospekt entry.   It’s ten years today since a cardboard box filled with 500 copies of the Safety EP arrived on my doorstep from the manufacturer. I sold the first copy to my room-mate at university for £3. It took over a year to sell (or give away) the remaining 499. One of those copies found ti’s way to Ms Debs Wild, then of Universal Records.   And that’s how all this got started...   Prospekt   More on this here onwards [thanks Lore &
