Rockers Coldplay have been accused of approaching their music careers like "f***ing middle-class businessmen" who are only motivated by money.   The Yellow hitmakers have fallen victim to the scathing tongue of cult The Fall singer Mark E. Smith who recounts the time an American taxi driver overheard the band discussing business in the back of his cab - leading him to believe they were stockbrokers. And charismatic Smith insists if singer Chris Martin and his bandmates were his children, he'd dre

Coldplay have been named Music Week’s Artist Of The Year for 2016.   Over the past 12 months, the band have won a BRIT Award, played to a combined audience of over 11.5 million at the Super Bowl and headlined Glastonbury for a record fourth time. Their tour in support of A Head Full Of Dreams, released in December 2015, grossed £108.4m from 29 shows in the first half of 2016.   Coldplay recently became the biggest band in the world on all-time streams when they passed five billion streams on S

Yesterday, Coldplay arrived to São Paulo for the series of concerts the British band will play in the city.   Fans eager to take photos and autographs were waiting for them at the international airport. Chris Martin and his bandmates, however, avoided the main exit. On the whole, just 15 people were at the airport to welcome Coldplay. This may be explained by the heavy rain or the secrecy involving the date of the band’s arrival.   Preview the Brazil shows here   [thanks Suzana Fong]

Coldplay have arrived in Sicily, Italy to shoot the video for the first single, Violet Hill, taken from Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.   It was originally thought that only 'Prospekt' was present in Italy, but Italian media has confirmed that it was the whole band, ready to film a video for the first single of the fourth album.   Confirmed today, the film set has been a very restricted area, and is located in Enna (the Italian city at the highest altitude), near Nicoletti lake. Coldplay have been speaking to Q magazine about public expectations of their forthcoming album, 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends', and their tag as one of the biggest bands in the world.   Frontman Chris Martin believes the band have not yet released anything "that good". He said: "I've just been excited about writing. After the last record I felt like God, I can't believe we've got away with becoming this huge band. And we still haven't done anything I think is that good yet. So it wa

The reviews are starting to flood in after Coldplay's headline performance at Glastonbury last night, and early indications are that the consensus is outstanding...   Playing the new material from their forthcoming fifth studio album, including 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall', Coldplay's third go as headliners at Worthy Farm seemed to be a test for Chris Martin and co, writes the NME with a review of 9/10. With a set that included the big guns 'Yellow' and 'In My Place', as well as most fans' fi

According to NME.com, Coldplay dedicated "See You Soon" to Kylie Minogue, who was in the audience at their performance last night.   There was also a bit of hooplah when they started playing "Yellow," as a drunken fan made it on stage and stole the mic away from Chris.   Reportedly, the set they played at David Bowie's Meltdown Festival should be similar to the one they'll play on Friday when they headline the Glastonbury Festival.

The following setlist is unconfirmed, but comes from a fan who attended Coldplay's show at Mountfield Hall, Liverpool on the 20th:   Politik Shiver Spies Daylight Trouble One I Love Don't Panic Everything's Not Lost We Never Change God Put A Smile Upon Your Face Yellow Scientist   Encore Clocks In My Place Sugar Eyes (?) with Ian McCullogh (Echo and the Bunnymen) Unknown Song Life Is For Living   Apparently the set lasted longer than fans expected, so a lot of tapers didn't catch the whole thin

Coldplay were back in Vegas, for the first time since 2011, where they last performed at the 2011 iHeartRadio festival. Coldplay were on the center stage again for a brief but exhilarating show after their wonderful show in Los Angeles the other night.   Firstly, i'm sure he needs no introductions around here but he's gonna do one anyway!       Coldplay's setlist at the star studded festival was condensed, which was inline with the pop based festival in which artists would only play for 4

He has been a tireless campaigner against the trade rules that govern the lives of farmers in the Third World. He has also attacked the media, public schools and even poked fun at his wife's pregnancy.   Now Chris Martin, lead singer of the pop group Coldplay, has turned his anger on shareholders and profits. And his chosen target is EMI, the company that releases his records.   In a politically charged attack that has been welcomed by anti-globalisation campaigners, Martin said that he did not

Coldplay are having a garage sale at their studio. So, anyone who wants to pick up a gadget with Korg, Roland, Linn, Pearl, Hafler or Yamaha written on it, then head off to eBay, because that’s where you’ll find it.   The Coldplay studio clearance has a few nice bits and pieces, including a Korg Mono Poly, an Oberheim DX and a Jupiter 8. If you’re just a crazed Coldplay fan, there’s some crappy cheap monitors for £38…   Have a look at all the sale items here

Coldplay are delaying the release of their next single, because they want to avoid a head-to-head race with rockers Oasis for the UK number one spot.   The two groups have build bridges in recent months and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is keen not to jeopardise his friendship with Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.   An record industry insider tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "Coldplay have moved Fix You back to a September release because their current single Speed Of Sound is still getti

In between the hustle and bustle of the Crisis hidden gigs and all that goes with the rush for tickets and auction bids, we'd like to remind you that Coldplay have recently backed a campaign to get '2 Minutes Silence' to number one on the UK singles chart. The track, which has been released by the British Legion's Poppy Appeal, features nothing but silence.   It is accompanied by a video featuring the likes of Thom Yorke, The Saturdays, Mark Ronson and prime minister David Cameron. Coldplay have thrown their weight behind a campaign to save threatened BBC station 6 Music, Music Week have reported on their website. The band have lined up alongside the likes of La Roux, Sigur Ros, The Zutons and Delphic as the latest acts to back the digital service, which has been recommended for closure alongside the BBC Asian Network. Both stations' futures are now subject to a BBC Trust consultation process, which closes for submissions on May 25.   “We would like to voice our strong opp

Coldplay's Twitter jumped into life today when Prospekt added the following entry: The band are back in the studio for a couple of weeks with Brian Eno...   Pitchfork weren't far behind with this article published a short while ago:   When it was first announced that Brian Eno was working with Coldplay back in 2007, some people overreacted, pissed their egghead idol was lowering himself to Chris Martin & Co.'s level. But now, a couple years later and with Viva la Vida and The Prospekt's Marc

It appears that Coldplay may well now be back on home soil in the UK (for 6 weeks anyway) just two days after Saturday's unforgettable, 'thunderous' and 'enlightening' outdoor concert at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This is what Miller (aka Roadie #42) had to say earlier today via Twitter:   Less than 18 hrs after an outdoor gig in a virtual monsoon, on my own safa with a sunday dinner watching ice skating. Fall y'buggers!   Meanwhile, you may remember last year Coldplaying putt
