Coldplay takes its sound in new directions on its fourth studio album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, according to Billboard.com. Some of the new embellishments include heavy use of synthesizers on the instrumental opening track, "Life in Technicolor," as well as a string section on "Yes," a funky middle break on "Death and All His Friends" and a "massive-sounding" church organ on "Lost!" Although the group has experimented with song structures and additional instrumentation, singer Chris Martin said, "We're still obsessed with making songs that can be sung to the rafters. We just wanted to present them differently."
The album arrives on June 16th/17th.
