Coldplay paid tribute to Beastie Boys star Adam 'MCA' Yauch at All Points West this weekend, as well as the late Michael Jackson. The rap trio had to pull out of headlining the festival's opening night, because Yauch was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Jay-Z was brought in as a replacement and showed his respect, when he covered their 'No Sleep 'Till Brooklyn' on the Friday evening (July 31st). Then last night (Sunday August 2nd), Coldplay honoured the rapper by covering their hit single 'Fight For Your Right', from the Beastie Boys album 'Licensed To Ill'. (click link to watch the video). Later showing their respect for Jackson, Coldplay also covered his song 'Billie Jean' to close their set.
Coldplay faced an anxious wait at the All Points West Festival in New Jersey on Sunday as torrential rain threatened to cancel the whole event. Ticketholders were held at the gates of Liberty State Park for four hours because of the heavy rainfall, which had turned the open field into a mudpit.
The skies began to clear at around 3.30pm (EST) and fans rushed into the festival grounds as soon as the gates opened an hour later. Singer PT Walkley kicked off the day's live music when he opened the second stage with a two-song set - two hours behind schedule. We Are Scientists, Silversun Pickups and Elbow helped to get the line-up schedule back on track, while bands including Steel Train and Kitty, Daisy & Lewis had their early performances scrapped altogether due to the time constraints.
As WENN went to press, Coldplay were on schedule to headline the main stage at 9.15pm and close the three-day festival on Sunday night, while MGMT and The Black Keys are the final acts to hit the second stage.
