Below is an copy of Jenny's story - you can read also the full review at Absolute Radio's website:
I would have to choose Coldplay. Whether they play small venues or huge stadiums, you can’t help but be drawn into the intimate atmosphere, finding yourself singing & dancing along. The first time I saw the band live was in Liverpool in 2002. I had no idea who they were, and was just there to keep my then boyfriend company. They played a small hall, and were testing their equipment for Glastonbury - I was blown away for more than one reason! Most of that gig remains a blur, but I was hooked from then. I’ve seen them a few times at the M.E.N Arena since, and every time is better than the last.
There’s always something different going on at one of their gigs to enhance the experience. Where else would you expect to hear the Blue Danube belted out, before the arena plunges into blackness signalling the start of the show? There’s the huge yellow, glitter-filled balloons which appear during “Yellow”, the butterfly confetti for “Lovers In Japan”, the lasers in Clocks, and the tiny acoustic set performed in the middle of the crowd. On every occasion, I am left in no doubt that the band love what they do and want to share the best with their fans.
More than just the band and the gig, there is the involvement of the Coldplay family and their interaction with the fans. The live experience is enhanced in the days before and after the show. Anchorman sends Twitter updates & photos to keep you on tenterhooks and Roadie #42 posts blogs providing a behind the scenes perspective. I’m now counting the days to my next Coldplay experience - Wembley! Its going to be ace, not least because of all the great people from Coldplaying.com who I’ll be meeting up with!
