Coldplay's Oracle round-up: Live 2012 DVD, being in a Coldplay video, Embrace, alternative Paradise video and more...

    Q. A while ago I heard the band Muse wanted to be the first band to ever play in space. Is this even possible and would Coldplay ever do such a thing?

    The Oracle replies:

I hear rumours of various acts who may or may not be performing in Space I have to admit and as you may know a Will.I.Am track was played recently (on Mars) but the less said about that the better - I think. I rarely believe anything I read or hear due to so many fallacies appearing. I don't doubt the idea may have been pitched but as far as I am aware, Coldplay are not considering playing in outer space - though their songs have been played on shuttles, which is amazing. Muse did talk about the idea of performing in Space last year though...

    Q. Hey Oracle! I remember there was this little period after the Viva era, when the Coldplay website was all white and heaven-like (for lack of a better word) that was before it shifted to the present MX era website. So, what was that about? Was it reflecting the theme of the other project they first thought of but later scrapped for MX? Thanks! Suhit.

    The Oracle replies:

Thanks for the heaven reference but it was simply a case of an interim site before launch with the look & feel of what was to come with the MX release. If you look back, that gave a good indication of what was to follow and also how far in advance those things are thought about.

    Q. Hi Oracle, I hope you're having a good October :) My question is if any of the artists that toured with Coldplay will be featured on Live 2012 ;) Thank you so much, Rachael x

    The Oracle replies:

As it's a Coldplay DVD, it will be the band's show; not the support acts' performances. It's not usual for bands to include any of the openers in their own tour film by the way. There were quite a lot so it'd be a jolly long film! Rihanna is a featured artist as she performed Princess of China with the band in Paris, so she will appear.

    Q. Hi. My friend seems to think there's a bagpipe in Every Teardrop is a Waterfall. She claims it's a bagpipe when Jon plays solo with electric guitar. She was so certain about her being right that I got suspicious, so please tell us whether it's a bagpipe or a guitar. Thanks a lot.

    The Oracle replies:

Bagpipes? Wow, I've never been asked that before or heard anyone mistake the guitar for them. Now I listen again, I can sort of see why your friend could think that but no, there are no bagpipes on that track or any other Coldplay song.

    Q. Just curious if you've ever polled demographic info on your fans and have any idea how old your oldest one may be. I think I may be it; I'm 57 and very much enjoy your music! (But I promise I won't embarrass you by showing up at a concert, surrounded by more suitably-aged audience members...)

    The Oracle replies:

I know fans in their 70s and beyond so you're nowhere near the oldest and in fact - you're not old; you're still a spring chicken! Come to a gig & you'll see all ages and people from all walks of life - that's the beauty of music; it's not ageist.

October 9, 2012 - submitted by Lynsey, United States of America

    Q. Hey! I've always had the dream of being in a Coldplay music video. What do you think the chances are to be in one? Thanks! (Sorry if this is a stupid question)

    The Oracle replies:

It's not a stupid question. I saw a casting advert for the Paradise video I just posted in the last question. I recall there were job ads that popped up for Speed of Sound & Charlie Brown too. I'm sure there were others also but failing that, there's always the live route. For example, I myself am in the Fix You video. Well, I attended the concert where the live footage was shot for the latter part but still, I'm in there somewhere...

    Q. Dear Oracle, Today I found this awesome video from the directors of the Strawberry Swing video. They made an alternative music video for Paradise and I LOVED it. So I was wondering, has Coldplay had anything to do with this video?? I have, I think, never seen it anywhere on the website. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with everyone. Greetings from Holland.

    The Oracle replies:

Yes, that was the first incarnation of the Paradise video before Chris came up with the concept for the award-winning elephant video that became the official video for the song. I like Shynola's work but am so happy with the band's final decision as Paradise is still my favourite Coldplay video so far.

    Q. Hi, I only want to know if this song is played by Coldplay and if it is true, when did they composed it? Thank you very much.

    The Oracle replies:

Spooky, our second Gravity question of the day. Yes this song - Gravity - was written and performed by Coldplay in 2002. Chris "gave" the song away & it was released by Embrace in 2004. In 2005, Coldplay re-recorded it and released it as the bside of the Talk single.

October 8, 2012 - submitted by Shadley, New Zealand

    Q. Dear Oracle, what do you think my chances are, that if I make a sign that says, "Please Play Gravity" when Coldplay are in New Zealand, that they will?

    The Oracle replies:

No, I think I can categorically say they won't; because they don't see that song as theirs since Embrace recorded it.
