Coldplay perform at Somerset pub in warm-up to Thursday's Under1Roof gig

Coldplay played a secret gig at the Ring O'Bells pub in the Somerset village of Compton Martin near Blagdon, England last night (16th December) to an audience of a hundred people in an apparent warm-up show for the forthcoming Under1Roof gig on Thursday. The setlist according to photos was: Yellow, Clocks, The Scientist, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, Viva La Vida, Charlie Brown, Paradise, Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall and Christmas Lights.Full discussion on this secret event is at the Coldplay Live forum now [thanks cleeson7, Tash, The Master, gai, TraceOddity, Lodder]Cleeson7 wrote:

Just had a phonecall from a friend telling me Coldplay were playing a pub nearby. I quickly jumped in my car and made the 17 mile round trip. I turned up but a security guard would not me in. He wasn't giving away any details, just told me it was a private function. I could hear them and they were playing Charlie Brown as I left. I was going to hang around but I reckon they would be staying late.

Locals were reported to have been turned away from the Ring O'Bells pub because Coldplay were performing, however an article from ITV suggested that the pub confirmed that all the 'real regulars' were allowed to stay and watch. The MailOnline however, posted a different slant. They said:

But while VIP guests – among them singer Lily Allen – let their hair down at the gig, village locals were left fuming after being refused entry by a security team employed to monitor the pub and its adjoining car park. One patron raged: ‘It's just annoying, it's a local pub and we're the ones that keep it going all year round. They do this once a year and we are never invited. So many locals come here and they feel so let down - without us the pub wouldn't still be running anyway. It's just a bit gutting that we're stood out in the rain and we can't even go in. It feels like our little local pub is becoming too commercial. I saw Chris Martin leaving earlier - which made my night. He left before 9pm though which I thought was quite surprising.’

I'm told locals @Ring_O_Bells involved in big argument after being "kicked out" and told to drink in another pub because @coldplay were in

The Ring o' Bells pub, near Blagdon, is part owned by Miles Leonard, the Chairman of Parlophone, Coldplay's record label. It follows a similar surprise by Kylie Minogue at the freehouse in 2010.Parlophone tweeted this:

Wow!! @coldplay just casually playing Ring O' Bells #onlypubinthevillage pic.twitter.com/TdB1EzxIRf

And even this from Xylobands inventor Jason Regler, back on the scene:

what a great night :) The band were in fine form - small intimate and LOUD

And others tweeted from inside the venue:
