As expected, on Friday night Coldplay received the Best British Act at this year’s Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards in London (28th June). Chris and Jonny were present to collect Coldplay's award, and they were also nominated for the Best Live Act award. More discussion, photos and tweets on the awards is at the Coldplay forum now [thanks Tash]Ex-Verve bandmembers Nick McCabe and Simon Jones presented Chris and Jonny with their Best British Act award. Chris said on stage: "We’re so thrilled to receive this from you. Why aren’t you still in The Verve? We’re so psyched to be on stage with two legends."Others award winners included Vampire Weekend, Jessie Ware, The Kinks' Ray Davies, One Direction, The Bee Gees' Barry Gibb, Labrinth, Alison Moyet and classical performer Alison Balsom. The Clash picked up The Silver Clef Award (for outstanding contribution to UK music). The award, which is the main prize of the entire event, has previously been won by legendary British musicians including Queen, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, as well as some more unlikely choices such as M People and Dido. The star-studded annual event, which is now in its 38th year, raised a total of £480,000 at the ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane. Nordoff Robbins provide over 50,000 music therapy sessions annually, visiting community establishments such as schools, day centres, hospitals and care homes, in addition to the work done at their main centre and units.Bee Gees star Barry Gibb had said earlier that he would like to collaborate with Chris Martin. The legendary songwriter - who was honoured with the 'Lifetime Achievement' label at tonight's ceremony - has been responsible for a number one hits in all decades spanning between the 1960s and 2000s. Asked who he would like to write a chart-topping hit with in today's music industry to continue the run, Gibb told Digital Spy ahead of the awards: "It could be Chris Martin, but it might be Paul McCartney. You never know when your roads are going to cross. I have a communication with Paul - I'm going to do a seminar at the Liverpool Performing Arts on songwriting. That's what life does. You gravitate towards one another and either something happens or it doesn't."Latest tweets:
