Coldplay are set to headline this summer's Roskilde Festival in Denmark on 5th July, it's been announced. The performance will mark the first time the band have played at the festival since 2003. Additional acts at this year's Roskilde, which will take place from July 2nd-5th, are to be announced shortly. Coldplay are set to headline a music festival at Spike Island, scene of an infamous concert by The Stone Roses, according to reports. The band have apparently been approached to play the three-day event in Widnes (near Liverpool), as have Oasis and former Roses frontman Ian Brown. Apparently Halton Council have approved an application to put the festival on, with organisers scheduling the three-day event for this coming May. Coldplay and ESPN have signed a marketing deal that will have the rock band promoting soccer and the sports network promoting the band's new album. The marketing campaign announced Wednesday will use Coldplay's music in promotions for ESPN's coverage of the Euro 2008 soccer tournament, which is scheduled for June 7-29 in Austria and Switzerland. ESPN has also agreed to incorporate music from Coldplay's new release, "Viva La Vida," into game and studio production. The CD is due out June 12.

Coldplay will open the Sydney Sound Relief event with a full band instead of the previously announced acoustic show. In making the announcement, organizer Michael Chugg said: "We were thrilled when Coldplay first agreed to be a part of Sound Relief, even just with an acoustic set, considering they already have eleven shows to play while they are in Australia.
