U2, Ireland's greatest non-drinkable export, was the surprise big winner at the 48th annual Grammy Awards on Wednesday at the Staples Center.   The adventurous, socially aware rock quartet pulled down a leading five trophies, including album of the year for "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," overshadowing leading nominees Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West, who came into the night with eight nods each.   "This is a big night for our band," U2 singer Bono said simply, holding aloft a golden

HARTFORD - Whether playing center stage, playing on the two side ramps that stretched into the crowd or playing a mini-acoustic set way in the back of the arena, Coldplay lived up to all the hype it's been getting these days and totally conquered the capacity crowd Saturday night at the XL Center.   The band offered plenty of dazzling eye candy throughout its 90-minute performance, from laser lights and floating video globes to showers of confetti butterflies, which all added to the aura.   Ul

Chris Martin grew up hearing a lot of hymns, and it's a musical influence that shows through particularly clearly when his band Coldplay performs in concert.   Like the church songs of Martin's devout upbringing, Coldplay's music is often stately and solemn, with an uplifting undercurrent meant to inspire. It's grown more pronounced with each of the band's four albums, and it was evident in the soaring sing-alongs throughout the English quartet's performance Saturday at XL Center in Hartford.

It's been right in front of us for ages.   As was previously reported, Coldplay plates that were available for sale and which matched the charity mug previously sold contains a year-old hidden message regarding LP4.   An eagle-eyed coldplayer has spotted the message in the Coldplay charity plate advertised last year on Coldplaying.com (see images below) which says "Jonny's Solo On 42"... 42 is a track expected to included on Coldplay's fourth album and was one of the songs originally listed on C

It took nearly half a year after having to cancel in the wake of Hurricane Katrina's devastation, but Coldplay made it back to Houston and it was well worth the wait.   After the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Coldplay's mentors U2's tours through town since then, the bar has been set high.   As far as hitching wagons go, Coldplay's decision to go with the Irish supergroup — arguably the best rock 'n' roll group on the planet — is not a bad one. Go with the best if you gotta go with someone.

If you've been to see the Twisted Logic tour you know what happens at the end of In My Place. I just thank the arbitrary combination of 0's and 1's that blessed us with these seats at the show in Milwaukee last weekend.   Didn't think I'd ever get that close to Chris and I count my lucky stars every time I look at this. The concert was awesome and this moment was unbelievable.   See the picture here [thanks CGJW]

Up to 59,999 people, including artists and staff, will be able to attend the event at Seaclose Park on June 9, 10 and 11.   Headlined by The Prodigy, Foo Fighters and Coldplay, organisers said they expected to sell around 50,000 tickets.   Following concerns from some residents about noise, anti-social behaviour and drink-related crime, organiser John Giddings agreed to end the event at 1am on Monday, June 12, not 2am as initially applied for. He also agreed to a condition banning alcohol sales

Coldplay take on Texas in this exclusive video performance filmed in December, 2005 as part of the acclaimed PBS program, Austin City Limits. Coldplay have long been praised for their live shows, where they effectively straddle the world of anthemic pop and something grander [critics might even say “important.”]   This is all on display as the band and its increasingly charismatic frontman, Chris Martin, run through tracks like “Clocks and “Speed of Sound”. This live session also includes two cu

Last month Chris Martin of the British band Coldplay reportedly got stuck in an elevator in Brisbane, Australia.   That the man who sang "Fix You" and "Don't Panic" might have had "A Rush of Blood to the Head" while trapped in a faulty lift for two hours is the stuff of tabloid headlines. But any symbolic significance seen in the episode would be misplaced.   After all, the vertiginous rise of Coldplay over the last few years has been nothing short of unstoppable, with only Martin himself appare

Neil Young and Nickelback were among the early Juno winners, each snagging two trophies yesterday at a private industry dinner.   Alberta rockers Nickelback, who spent the afternoon signing autographs for thousands of frenzied fans at an event at Pier 21, were named group of the year.   As expected, superstars Coldplay and Black Eyed Peas - who are scheduled to play during tonight's broadcast (7 p.m., CTV, Cable 2) - won awards. They tied for best international album.   More on this hereWinner

So autumjoy had all these grand plans of how to wander around the city looking for the guys. Me, being the paranoid cynical type I am thought this was a little crazy and would never work. I went to the huge (amazing) Broken Social Scene concert Saturday night, and woke up Sunday hardly able to hear, and barely able to move I ached so much. As much as I really wanted to find the guys, I couldn't bear the though of moving more than a couple of feet at a time, and like I said, I didn't think we had

Southern California’s top rated Alternative Rock Radio station, 98.7fm, presents an exclusive 'Stripped' performance event with Coldplay (when they describe the band as 'one of the biggest and most dynamic artists of the day', who are we to argue!?). The performance will take place at a secret location on an undisclosed date in July, and the ONLY way to get inside the show is to win passes from 98.7fm.   Having sold well over 5 million copies of their current album, “Viva La Vida or Death and Al

Following six rounds of daily voting, Coldplay's single Viva La Vida has made it to the Brits 2009 shortlist to appear at the awards ceremony later today. However, the work doesn't finish there. This from Anchorman recently:   It's been announced that Viva La Vida has made the final five for the Best British Single at the Brits. Thanks so much for all of your votes which helped to get it there. We'd be very grateful if you'd take the time to vote for the track, to help it win. To vote, please ca
