Viva La Vida collaborator to support US tour shows in Los Angeles   From Jon Hopkin's blog:   I’ve been asked to support Coldplay for the first two shows of the Viva La Vida tour, on the 14th and 15th of July at the Forum, Los Angeles. I will also be joining them for the rest of their US tour as DJ, with more live support slots to be added along the way. Sadly this means I have had to cancel my scheduled DJ appearance at Camp Bestival, sorry about this.   You may remember Coldplaying also report

TORONTO - Coldplay's Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland were greeted by a screaming mob of fans Monday, the first day of a three-day promotional blitz in the city to talk up the band's new album, X&Y.   "I can't think of anything except how many people are standing behind me," said a beaming Martin when he was asked about making the new record during a stop at MuchMusic. "It was hard. Judging by the (screaming) it was worth it."   While X&Y won't hit stores until June 7, the British band

Jonny Buckland's entry on Wikipedia was earlier defamed by a wiki-editor. They wrote, "Jonny is a very naughty boy. He used to run around starkers in his lawn, mooning his tush and flashing his "winkie" at his neighbours."   If you can be bothered reading the rest, click here

A website claims that Chris Martin got some help while producing a track with Jay-Z: Jonny Buckland, our lovely Coldplay guitarist, was appearently part of the collaboration as well.   The article says: Changing pace again, the album them drops the incendiary Beach Chair featuring, of all people, Chris Martin and Jon Buckland, of Coldplay. It’s a fine collaboration and possibly one of the boldest on the long-player, given the gulf in musical composition that generally separates these three artis

Arctic Monkeys March 21st - Phoenix Concert Theatre   Acknowledging the show as the band's proper introduction to Toronto fans ("We couldn't really have it last night," Turner said jokingly), the sweat-soaked foursome lurched into the set's closing track - "A Certain Romance."   Taking a drum-roll beginning and melding it with melodic Jonny Buckland-style harmonies, Turner painted a bleak picture of what life is like back home. "The point's that there isn't no romance around there," he sings.

Coldplay.com have caught up with Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland in an online interview direct from the studio where Coldplay are currently working on some new ideas with Brian Eno. You can discuss this interview at the Coldplay forum here. Here's what Jonny had to say this afternoon:   Hello Jonny, what are you up to? I'm in the studio.   The Bakery? Yes. We pop in all the time, but this is the first time we've been back doing a little bit of stuff with Brian.   Mr Eno? Yeah. It was enjoyabl

The new track is called "The Scientist" and guitarist Jonny Buckland says that they didn't spend a lot of time working on the track. It's not that they're lazy – the song is just that good.   Johnny says, "The most fun tracks to record are the ones that come quite quickly, you know, and come together quickly. 'The Scientist' was one of those. Chris wrote the melody and the piano part in an afternoon one Sunday and I heard it and I thought it was amazing. And the next day we went in and recorded

For Coldplay's Jonny Buckland, the future is unwritten. "If we achieved all our goals, we might as well hang it up," he says. So Coldplay keeps striving, looking past one accomplishment to the next one, whatever that might be, writes canada.com.   Since the quartet of Buckland, Chris Martin, Guy Berryman and Will Champion formed in London in 1998, it has sold more than 50 million albums, won numerous Grammy and Brit Awards, and had its latest album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, nam

Coldplay have spoken for the first time about their new album and working with Brian Eno.   The legendary producer recently confirmed he is in the studio with Chris Martin and co, as they look to follow-up their third LP, "X&Y". Speaking in London at one of the sell-out Arcade Fire shows last week, guitarist Jonny Buckland said Coldplay felt fortunate to be working with Eno. "Well, we kind of more feel that he picked us really. With someone like Brian, if you can persuade him to work with yo

A new book has the Welsh celebrity-sodden culture frothing with pleasure. Called The Dictionary of National Celebrity, by William Donaldson and Hermione Eyre, it takes a wry look at the famous folk of today. Inspired by this, in a three-part series, Claire Hill has come up with her own A to Z of who's who and what's what in Welsh public life today.   Buckland, Johnny - (September 11, 1977) You may not have realised this, but Coldplay have Welsh credentials. Well, at least the sexy guitarist John

Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. These names probably don't ring a bell.   They are members of Coldplay, one of the United Kingdom's biggest bands. You'll probably only recognise the lead singer - Chris Martin - yes, he who is married to Hollywood A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow and has two tots, Apple and Moses.   Martin has become so synonymous with the band's name, everyone knows him as the face and voice of Coldplay. But the other members don't seem to mind playing second fiddle.Guit

Jude Law's New Year's resolution is to play the piano like Coldplay's Chris Martin.   The "Sleuth" star, who can already play the saxophone, harmonica and guitar, is desperate to become an amazing pianist because he is "rubbish" at playing the other instruments.   He told BANG Showbiz, "I don't usually make New Year's resolutions because I try and have resolutions and ambitions all through the year. You know what, though, I don't know whether I'll be able to accomplish this next year but I've

A U.S. judge in New York said he will rule by April on whether Terra Firma Capital Partners Ltd.’s suit accusing Citigroup Inc. of tricking it into buying EMI Group Ltd. belongs in London, reports Business Week today. “This is not an obvious slam-dunk decision for either side,” U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan said yesterday at a hearing on Citigroup’s argument that the suit should be dropped because the U.K. has jurisdiction over it. “I have no idea where I’m coming out on any of thi

Perhaps it was the presence of alpha pin-up Pamela Anderson or the more festive atmosphere of Halifax, but the 2006 Juno Award weekend brought out some of the randiness in the otherwise traditionally sexless Canadian musical community.   All throughout the weekend, musicians' thoughts were veering below the belt. Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and Jully Black, the host of Saturday night's non-televised Juno Awards gala, mustered up some heat when Kroeger proclaimed that he and Black were "gonna make

HALIFAX - Bagpipers at the airport, parties in the street, industry hobnobbing, star sightings and music everywhere — it was an action-packed weekend on the East Coast as the 35th annual Juno Awards did their best to celebrate Canadian music, big and small.   The televised show last night was just one event among many, and there was truly something for everyone.   Ginger’s Tavern was the place to be on Friday night, as soft-spoken romantic Ron Sexsmith held court before a full house.   Outside,

It was with a tear in his eye and a lump in his throat that one-quarter of one of the most famous rock bands on the planet returned to his hometown of Southampton.   Coldplay drummer Will Champion took time out of the award-winning band's hectic schedule to perform a heartfelt honour.   He was invited to Southampton University to officially open a new archaeology building, which holds special significance for his family.   Read the full article here
