EMI, which is owned by Terra Firma, the private equity group controlled by financier Guy Hands, could be put up for sale this summer, reports the Telegraph this week. Warner, which has long coveted EMI's recorded music division, and KKR, which is interested in the music publishing business, are understood to have met in recent weeks to discuss how they might structure a bid. However, no approach is thought to have been made and talks remain at an early stage.   EMI, home to artists including Ro

Eagle-eyed Coldplayer sharp-boy has been doing some digging for possible dates for Coldplay's mega-concert at Knebworth. On the Knebworth House website there are two dates in July (4th and 5th July 2009) where the house is closed on the first day and the House, Gardens & Park closed on the second day. Could these be the days set aside for Coldplay?   In a Radio 1 exclusive back in mid-October, Chris Martin announced that Coldplay are looking to book at least two nights at the famous Knebwort

He doesn't understand bad press...   Luke Pritchard, frontman of The Kooks, has called Coldplay the “best band in the world” and compared them to David Bowie.   The singer said he couldn't understand how the band had received negative press despite their latest album, 'Viva La Vida', topping the charts in the UK and America. “I can’t believe that they’re getting a hard time,” he said. “It’s weird. How can people undermine them? To me Coldplay are other-worldly. I love the whole thing they’ve go

Considered internationally as one of the most inspired bands of both the rock and pop genre, Coldplay transforms the sounds of many genres with their note-defying, expansive instrumentation, and bittersweet lyrical storytelling, KROQ Radio writes today, in a review of their performance and Q&A session at the 'Red Bull Sound Space' on 18th October in Los Angeles. Coldplay brought their iconic and intimate sound to the Red Bull Sound Space at KROQ, playing Yellow, Paradise, Viva La Vida, Charl

What do Dido's brother, the song Happy Birthday, the Cornish surf-rock scene and the Caribbean have in common?   In their own ways they've each shaped Kubb mainman Harry Collier's songwriting and given him much-needed breaks into the music business. The band's debut album, Mother, was released last year to wide acclaim.   Radio One DJ Jo Whiley was among their early high-profile fans, and the Times declared that they could be the new Coldplay.   Read the full article here

Kylie Minogue could headline next year's Glastonbury festival, event organiser Michael Eavis has said.   "Kylie is coming back hopefully. Her people are quite confident. She really wants to do it," said Mr Eavis.   The singer had to pull out of last year's festival after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Mr Eavis was speaking at the London launch of a documentary film about the 35-year-old event, told through the eyes of festival-goers."Kylie doesn't fit the Glastonbury festival image with Ne

Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue’s contribution to Coldplay's new album has not been featured in their new album. It was left out because lead singer Chris Martin decided that it did not fit the mood of the album, thesun.co.uk reports.   Martin said: “Kylie is awesome. She’s like ‘Girls Aloud’ rolled into one. I took apart the song she did with us, like a Corby trouser press.”   The bassist added that the album is somewhat political. “There’s this slightly anti-authoritarian viewpoint that’s

Band plays to an unexpected beat as it launches its North American tour in L.A.   Chris Martin was on the floor working out the knots. As his handlers hovered, the usually affable Coldplay singer stretched out on the carpet in a dim and airless room backstage at the Jimmy Kimmel show. It was hours before show-time and the singer's muscles were tight and his expression sour. Finally, he looked up with pleading eyes. "Can we escape? Let's go somewhere else. Maybe some place with trees? I have a ca
