While the proposed merger of Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. and concert promoter Live Nation Inc. hasn't yet affected how the public will buy tickets, Live Nation has announced a new ticketing system that will replace Ticketmaster for Verizon Wireless Amphitheater concerts.   Tickets to the July 24 Coldplay concert at Verizon go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, and with that comes the first run of the new system. Ticketmaster can still be used for other venues, including Scottrade Center and the Pa

This is an exerpt from an article about Madonna's world tour:   Arthur Fogel, a one-time Torontonian now based in L.A. as Live Nation's CEO of global touring and chairman of global music, says this year's Madge tour will do extremely well, what with no other major tours in the works from such acts as U2 and the Rolling Stones, although he points out the Coldplay tour "will be huge in a different way."   More on this here [thanks Fixed]

Grammy voters are wack. Coldplay (tickets | music) is arguably today's most important rock band, currently touring in support of arguably the best mainstream rock record of last year, and the group deserves to go head-to-head with the likes of Kanye West and Mariah Carey in the major categories.   Coldplay, which is nominated for three trophies in the rock field, certainly came across like a band for the ages during its Monday night (1/30) concert at Arco Arena in Sacramento, CA.   The quartet d

Live8 organisers have vowed to track down hoaxers who tricked charities into paying $95,000 (£50,000) to advertise at the star-studded London concert.   Several British charities were contacted by a firm offering them fake 30 second commercials on the giant TV screens at the Hyde Park gig on 2 July (05). But Live8 organisers are determined to punish the those seeking to illegally capitalise on the buzz surrounding the huge showbiz event.   Spokesperson Bernard Doherty says, "We haven't even got

Given its massive bill (six headliners included), two months offers ample enough time to formulate your Lollapalooza schedule. So right on queue, the Chicago-based extravaganza, which is set to take over Grant Park 58 days from now, has revealed its day-by-day breakdown. So what’d we got?   Friday features a clash of the UK titans as Coldplay and Muse play opposite ends of the park to close out day one. You can discuss this in the Lollapalooza thread in the Coldplay Live forum. And if that sched

London Photographic Awards are 'calling for entries' for their latest conceptual photography award. Traditionally the Awards use a poem as a brief, but this year they have picked lyrics and music by Coldplay. 'Don't Panic' from their album Parachutes has been chosen.   According to the PLA's website, "this brief is in place to evoke a unique visual response to this track. You might find your work inspired by the title, a line, a verse or a feeling.   There are no constraints on how you interpre

The Chris Martin / Jay Z love-in always felt like a match made in celebdom rather than musical heaven, but at Wembley their shared ability to interpret the wisdom of crowds was obvious, writes BBC 6Music. [thanks RedGirl76]   Viva La Vida already has a Grammy and the title of the world’s biggest selling album behind it, but since the record itself is a brisk 47 minutes, the two-hour set demanded by a Wembley headline inevitably had to draw heavily on their previous three efforts. Along the tradition of Ben Folds Five comes a band out of Athens, Ohio, that is gaining momentum, Longfellow.   To kick off 2006 the band played its first show of the year at Ruby Tuesday on the corner of Summit Street and 19th Avenue on Friday. Amid jokes of a stinky microphone, Longfellow engaged the audience with its unique style of indie pop, rock and amusing banter.   Longfellow played a majority of its songs from "Jangling Tea Trolley," the band's 2005 debut album, and threw in some new so

It was the best year in recent memory for live music in the Bay Area. As per my regular music critic routine, I saw more than 150 concerts in 2006. A few of those shows were stinkers, some were mediocre and a surprisingly large number of them proved to be quite memorable.   The best of the lot are remembered here, in my own highly subjective list of the top 10 concerts of 2006. All of these shows left a lasting mark on me, in one form or another, which is exactly what's supposed to happen with

A new video of Lovers In Japan affiliated to Capitol records has emerged online and is now available to watch on this website.   The video was shot by Matt Whitecross at the United Center in Chicago during the same show in which the official video of Lost! and Lost+ was from. The images of the video seem to be part of an alternative video of the fourth single taken from the album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, but it has since been rumoured that it could also be a footage of the eage

Earlier tonight on Q Radio Coldplay played an acoustic version of Lovers In Japan, to celebrate the unveiling of the new radio station Q Radio. You can listen to the track here. The lyrics to accompany the song are as follows:   Lovers, keep on the road you're on Runners, until the race is run Soldiers, you've got to soldier on Sometimes even right is wrong   They are turning my head out To see what I'm all about Keeping my head down To see what it feels like now But I have no doubt One day, we

Chris Martin admits he's been "playing it a bit safe" for a large part of his life, while talking to Q magazine about the almost-finished fifth Coldplay album, due to be released in 2011. Chris said the lyrics on the band's next album are inspired by New York graffiti and the White Rose Movement - a group of German children in World War II who printed anti-Nazi flyers - and he admires people who speak out and express themselves in negative environments - admitting he's not always done that himse
