Coldplay are battling to avoid a messy split caused by growing rifts within the band.   Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion [pictured] and Guy Berryman are currently enjoying the success of their third album X&Y - but bad tempers and big egos are threatening to tear the group apart. A gruelling tour schedule to promote the album means they spend all their time together, which isn't helping.   Will Champion reveals, "We're all getting on each other's tits at the moment. Thousands of people have signed an online petition demanding the band performs a free gig or gives them a refund, they go on to write.   Frontman Chris Martin's wife Gwyneth Paltrow was among the 63,000 fans at the sell-out show on Friday at Barcelona's Olympic Stadium. Coldplay fans turned out en masse in Washington on Thursday night to send birthday wishes to the band’s curly mopped frontman, Chris Martin.   Nearly 2,000 posters emblazoned with the message, “Happy Birthday Chris!” were raised during the concert’s encore at MCI Center, The Washington Post’s J. Freedom du Lac reports.   A stunned Martin, whose voice was frayed because of a confessed tequila binge the night before, took in the message and bowed to the crowd.

Scans of Coldplay's article in February's edition of Q magazine are up. You can enjoy them in full size here.   Meanwhile in the article Brian Eno has altered Coldplay's approach to making music, encouraging them to consider rhythm, experiment with time signatures and, during one eureka moment, transpose Glass Of Water's piano riff onto three different guitars. "It sounded very African, which we liked," says Guy Berryman.   Brian Eno beavers away on Famous Old Painters, employing a gizmo called

Half of the artists on the list hail from England -- including The Who, who were part of the original invasion.   Coldplay with Richard Ashcroft (March 22, Air Canada Centre): The first perfect concert of the year -- rated five out of five -- featured an exciting Brit-pop matchup that doesn't g

Apple [not the baby] took advantage of Coldplay’s appearance on Saturday Night Live this week to air the first of what appears to be a new style of iTunes commercials.   The 30-second spot, which is a vast departure from the company’s cartoon-like silhouette ads, features Coldplay performing their new single “Speed of Sound” in order to promote the band’s new album, X&Y, on the iTunes Music Store. It is not clear whether the commercial was created from original footage or if it was taken fr
