Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has confessed to something musicologists and fans alike have thought for years - the rockers borrow heavily from Radiohead.   During a free Coldplay show in London on Monday night (16Jun08), frontman Chris Martin went so far as to joke about the fact, suggesting to fans that his band's God Put a Smile on Your Face sounded an awful lot like Radiohead's 2+2=5. He then quipped, "Sorry, we shouldn't be talking about plagiarism. Ignore that!"   It isn't the first time M

You smashed all your piggy banks, took on three extra paper routes, and forwent hot lunch for a whole month. And now, at last, the moment you saved for has finally arrived: Tonight, Coldplay launch the second go-round of their "Twisted Logic" North American tour.   The massive 33-date stretch will take Chris Martin and his mates through pretty much every major American metropolitan area and across the U.S.-Canadian border a mind-boggling six times. A reminder that Coldplay and All Their Friends -- including Shearwater, Santogold, and possibly you-- are set to launch into orbit, hopefully with magic balls (pictured) on Coldplay's world tour in support of their fourth album.   The tour kicks off tonight (July 14) in Los Angeles and takes the band across North America, the UK, Europe, and Japan. Don't forget, to celebrate their tour beginning, Coldplay are offering a free download of a new song not included on Viva la Vida or Death and All Hi

Slipknot have knocked Coldplay from the top of the European album charts - their new LP All Hope Is Gone has debuted at number one, according to 3news.co.nz.   The masked rockers' new reign means Coldplay's Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends has been pushed into second place, with Welsh soul star Duffy moving down one spot to third with Rockferry. The Verve score the only other new entry in the top five with Fourth, while the soundtrack to movie musical Mamma Mia! slips two spots to five.

The future seems cloudy for struggling music label EMI, reports various internet media sources this weekend. The home of Coldplay, The Beatles and Pink Floyd is seeing a change at the top of its management. This at the same time its private equity owner is at risk of losing control of the label to Citigroup.   On Monday, the CEO of its recorded-music division, Elio Leoni-Sceti, said he would step down at the end of the month. The company also said it would promote Charles Allen to the position o

A planned break-up and a £2billion loss in value threatens the UK major label, EMI   A letter filed by the Citigroup bank in New York has revealed that Terra Firma, the company that bought EMI in 2007, now values its acquisition at £2billion less than they paid for it. On the eve of the credit crunch, Terra Firma paid £4.2 billion for the record label that Coldplay, Robbie Williams and Lily Allen call home.   And according to various internet sources this morning, it is believed Guy Hands tried

An industry outsider has been named as the new chief executive of EMI music.   He is Elio Leoni-Sceti, formerly head of Europe at household goods giant Reckitt Benckiser. The 42-year-old has worked at Reckitt - whose products include Dettol and Nurofen - for the past 16 years.   He has no experience of the record industry but interim executive chairman Guy Hands says he has every confidence in him. Coldplay have tonight (Thursday) launched a slightly new look website which includes a new Studiofeed#1 YouTube video. This video clip is from their Beehive studio - if you listen carefully, you'll hear parts of music that may form part of their next album.   Interestingly though, the link button to the news page now shows a newspaper with letters "MX" and "UFO". For those interested in Roman numerals, MX is the equivalent of 1010, or for those wishing the LP5 was here already, 10th October. But

Nominations for the Brit Awards 2009 won't be revealed until 18th February 2009 but already people are talking on which group will pick up the gong after the success in 2008 of Coldplay, Take That and Radiohead.   Current market leader with Paddy Power in the betting for Best Group are Coldplay at 11/10, followed by Take That at odds of 6/4. You can be a bit more adventurous with your wager if you fancy backing an outsider and take Glasvegas at 20/1 or Last Show Puppets at 50/1.   Betting Odds (

So far, they've turned down multimillion-dollar contracts from the likes of Gatorade, Diet Coke and the Gap for the commercial use of their songs.   But Coldplay, the best-selling British band, is now giving a helping hand to the United Way of London and Middlesex. Coldplay gave the fundraising agency permission to use the song Fix You in a promotional video for the United Way's campaign to raise $6.85 million for 40 local organizations that help the vulnerable.   "It's not often that a major
