  1. Saw them 5 times in 2001 6 times on tour in 2003 and every time they played more than 23 songs. They played 25 at the earls court and MSG gigs. FANTASTIC. Either way.. that's 6 OR 7 MORE SONGS at minimum. As concerts go, that's an ENTIRE opening act. 40 minutes or more.
  2. That's the Tweeter show in Camden? I'll be there. (Doesn't it irk you when the call it the "Camden" show? C'mon, it's the "Philly" show. ;-) I paid the 70 xx dollars for the Homdel show. That one hurt (156 after service fees for 2 tix).
  3. SuchARush: I suppose you were right, it was a bit of hyperbole. But let's be fair, 24-25 is the norm. 6-8 songs more on a tour can be a matter of 40 minutes of music. I distinctly remember paying 75 quid to see Radiohead at the sold out Manchester Apollo show in 2003. The 2nd of 5 clubdates, their first small venue tour since 1997 (bout 2500-3000 people). Including the train from London AND hotel, my expenses were LESS than what your boyfriend paid for those Toronto tix. I know things change, but I saw them for less than $20 at the EF in Philly in 2001. I've seen them 20 times and never paid a dime over 35 so I'm a little taken aback by the amount of $ being bandied about to see them. I know their MEGA now, but my LORD. I'll accept that reason for the limited setlist (voice) I think you may be spot on. I'm just a little disappointed. For example, at the Pier 6 Pavillion in Baltimore in September 2002 they played a setlist of 18 songs. This is before they expanded their catalog by about 20 songs. I would like to see them expand their show to about average for a band with their popularity and repertoire. Does anyone remember the end of the Parachutes leg when they played 4-5 b-sides and new songs a night (GPASUYF, Animals, Idiot, Murder, AROBTTH, etc.) yet people were paying top dollar for those small venue shows? I don't think it hurts them to play "less known" songs, in fact I think the new fans will scurry to get their hands on those songs.
  4. Am I the only one who's a little frustrated by the fact that CP is playing 17 songs on the new tour? They played around 14 the first time i saw them in June of 01 and have since released almost 20 b-sides and 35 album songs. Someone explain to me how they can now charge 70 for seats and 40 for lawn seats at almost every venue and leave out "staple" live songs like Trouble. This is the FIRST tour where they apparently don't even play a B-Side! I know they aren't in "radiohead" land yet, but they play 26-29 songs on tour. I'll feel really slighted if I hear a <2 hr concert. And why did they retire some great songs from the 01-02 live era? For example, Idiot is probably one of the coolest tunes they've penned and it's been relegated to uber-fan's computers as a pirated bootleg.
  5. You quoted that Radiohead lyric WRONG, actually. "The Gloaming" may not be much of a song musically, but the lyrics do make definite sense if you quote the entire sentence, not take a tiny part out of context [repetitions removed]: "they will suck you down to the other side to the shadows blue and red, shadows blue and red your alarm bells, your alarm bells they should be ringing this is the gloaming" (pretentious word for dawn) So, not brilliant lyrics really, but very moving the way he repeats certain lines. This is one of the rare cases anyone can pretty much understand Thom. Hmm, what countries' flags are "blue and red." Could this, possibly, be his response to 9/11, a song condemning jingoism and "eye for an eye" violence? I don't even know why this should be necessary because it's pretty indisputed Thom is a better LYRICIST than Chris Martin, but here, just to prove the point, has Chris ever come up with something like this? The subject of the song is actually very much like what Chris writes about. Now seriously, which is better? - This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about when I trash these feeble-minded conformist tools. Wannabe avant garde art student philosophers. I don't give a good f#ck what Thom Yorke sings about, I commented on the idiocy of this hyperbolic thread, obviously started by some effete Radiohead fan. RH as a band is brilliant. But, some of Thom Yorke's lyrics display the prose of an angst-ridden middle school student. Don’t speak as if it’s a foregone conclusion that Thom Yorke is a superior lyricist. So what if Chris Martin chooses to sing sappy meaningless lamentations of love lost instead of biting political commentary masked in cosmically obscure Teutonic references? What makes Thom's lyrics better? Similar subject matter I'm sure... one is total abject inanity, the other poetic commentary: "Drag him out your window/Dragging out the dead/Singing I miss you Snakes and ladders/Flip the lid/Out pops the cracker/Snaps you in the head." v. "Created, then drilled and invaded/If somebody made it/Someone will mess it up/And you are not wrong to ask who does this belong to/It belongs to all of us." But I digress. This thread didn't start as a comparison between Radiohead and Coldplay. It started as a thinly veiled attack on CM as the worst lyricist ever, which is ridiculous. WHY NOT BE HONEST? Fred Durst? Nashville Pussy? Good Charlotte? Jimmy Buffett? And another thing, I DIDN'T misrepresent or misquote The Gloaming.
  6. Caveat: Radiohead is one of my fav bands. That being said, most Radiohead fans are pretentious little automatons; liking Radiohead for the sake of liking Radiohead is cool. I think that I think, therefore I think that I am. They should all die, except for me and all of the RH fans in the CP forum. Short comparison: RH - "To the shadows blue and red/To the shadows blue and red/Your alarm bells/Your alarm bells/To the shadows blue and red/To the shadows blue and red/Your alarm bells/Your alarm bells. " CP - "Stuck on the end of this ball and chain and I’m on my way back down/Stood on a bridge, tied to the noose/Sick to the stomach/You can say what you mean/But it won’t change a thing I’m sick of the secrets/Stood on the edge, tied to a noose/You came along and you cut me loose." RH - "You want me, well fucking well come and find me/I'll be waiting with a gun and a pack of sandwiches." CP - "When you thought it was over/You could feel it all around/Everybody’s out to get you/Don’t you let it drag you down/Cos if you eve feel neglected/If you think that all is lost/I’ll be counting all the demons, hoping everything's not lost." RH - "There are barn doors/And there are revolving doors/Doors in the rudders of big ships/And there are revolving doors/There are doors that open by themselves/There are sliding doors/And there are secret doors/There are doors that lock/And doors that don't/There are doors that let you in and out but never open/And there are trapdoors that you can't come back from." CP - "Darling, those tired eyes/Go with me all the time. And in the dead of night/Tell me you will be mine/Where do you go to, pretty baby/Where do you go to, when the night wins away/Ask me so sweetly, what do I do/Who do I sing for/Well honey I sing about you.. This completes our comparison, but as a final jab I'd like to say that RH fans are intellectually dishonest. I mean, c'mon: Oasis - " I've been driving in my car with my friend Mr. Soft/Mr. Clean and Mr.Ben are living in my loft."
  7. Wirez, I think I've been to your site before. What happened to all of the links? I wanted to DL the new 'phonics album!
  8. I won the lott for 4 tickets to 3 shows.. could only afford 1 show at those GHOULISH prices. How in good conscience can CC and Tweeter charge 70 dollars a F#CKING ticket to see a band with 3 studio albums to date? Can't wait for the lawn seats to go on sale, rumor has it they'll be in the range of 25-35.
  9. That's about it. There's also a demo cut of Don't Panic, a demo of Bros and Sisters, a crappy studio remix of Don't Panic, and the Piano version of Yellow if you're interested. You should seek out the live versions of Poor Me, Marianne, Proof (pre-SOS version), Gravity (now property of Embrace), Idiot, inter alia. There's a world of live CP stuff including unreleased songs, covers.. etc. aside from their studio work.
  10. PM Dawn: You're a phony, shut the f#ck up. I can't stand music snobbery for the sake of music snobbery. I understand you feel compelled to articulate your "well-reasoned" views to the masses, ensuring that all will bear witness to your grammar school comprehension of music theory, but please do us all a favor keep this glib schlock to yourself.
