Johnny Rotten Slams 'Humourless' Coldplay
Wow people... get a grip. Why is it that anything remotely critical of Coldplay causes a mass circus of insults on here? Why is everybody taking this so seriously? Why is everyone so offended... I love Coldplay and the new album... so what does it matter what anyone else thinks? Anyone on here who is trying to bring down the Sex Pistols and their relevance in musical history just because Johnny insulted Coldplay is kidding themselves. I'm not trying to insult anyone here at all, I just don't understand why a large proportion of this message board is ridiculously overprotective/defensive of coldplay? My two cents...

Chris Martin Launches Fat Fury On MoP
Why is everyone on Chris's side? Just because somebody insults your music doesn't mean you have to lower yourself to their level (arguably lower) and insult them about their weight. Chris should no better. "Such a cutie"? "Poor Chris"? Please - like he said on Denton, he was being an asshole. If he really wanted to protect his family he'd learn a bit of self control. Don't get me wrong, I've got a lot of respect for the man. But saying that to somebody is just unacceptable. Btw, though, he does show remorse, so again respect for that. I'm just mildly disagreeing with any justification of that kind of behaviour (btw, it's no different for the lady - if she wasn't exactly being polite, then she isn't exactly behaving well either). Just my two cents :)

ahh shallumstuart... just so you know, I wasn't criticising Chris Martin's voice... i love it... and I didn't think that this message board was about competition anyway  and by the way, I do find the use of the word "they" somewhat offensive when used in that tone... to me that implies exclusion and creates an "us" and "them" situation... i know you're a close knit community on here but just because I don't have many posts doesn't mean my opinion is any less valid than anybody elses No offence is meant by this post by the way... just saying how i feel

The highest Fix You got to was 25. Not bad, but it isn't great either. I think Coldplay is a lot like U2 in that, unless there's something that's really radio friendly (e.g. clocks), single sales will always be relatively poor. That comes with the territory - as a band, generally fans like them for their albums. For people who are into pop music and follow the charts and radio, they generally have less band loyalty and thus rely more on the quality of the song itself. With bands, it's more about the entire body of work, specifically the quality of the album. A band like Coldplay generally doesn't have a million people rushing out to buy the single, as generally fans will already have the album (in a market like Australia at least). Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? (lol I'm not sure if that even fits this situation but close enough :)) Having said that, the singles seem to do pretty well on the UK charts and a couple of other markets. I just don't think that there's a large enough market here for singles, and with digital music stores like Itunes and Ninemsn music becoming more popular, I think the days of singles are numbered. I suppose Coldplay don't make money from singles anyway and probably don't worry about it - they make money from album sales and touring (I know they obviously make some money, but nothing in comparison to the other profits). Lol anyways enoug blabbering... all I'll say is that I love the song. What i find funny is the number of people I know who pay out Chris Martin's high voice - especially in this song as he spends most of the song in either his upper register or in falsetto. I think one of the DJs on radio said it best "I used to be able to sing like that... when i was 10" ;)

bonnie, i can sense your disappointment, but the reality is there is no foolproof way to ensure only "hardcore" fans get tickets. I know i may sound like I'm being mean, but i'm just putting up another perspective. We were lucky to get a pre-sale at all - they didn't have to do it. Besides, how exactly does one determine who is more deserving than another? Length of being a member of coldplay.com? Well, somebody could have been a member since 2000, never even listened to Rush of blood or X & Y, never heard of gravity or see you soon, yet be classified a more deserving fan than somebody who registered in 2004 yet has every album/single, the live 2003 DVD on virtual repeat and countless bootlegs because they have been registereed longer. How do you differentiate? As far as the overload, it's quiet possible that before the 'random' people signed up that there was already too much demand among the already registered fans. Just food for thought. Look, i largely agree with you - it makes sense and seems fair that those that are classified as the 'real' fans get tickets. But the problem is, to the promoter, to most bands - it's about bums on seats. Their goal - sell out the arena. Another thing that I'd like to say is that new fans have just as much right to see the band as old fans. And in some ways, the whole idea of touring is to increase the fan base and to promote the album to new fans and old fans alike. Besides, I know, personally, that even if i didn't get tickets to any Aus shows, that i'd still love Coldplay's music and still keep listening/buying - some other fans want coldplay for what they are now and that's okay too. Everyone has the right to purchase tickets (hey, that should be added to the international declaration of human rights, don’t you think? :) . BTW, I think saying "some idiots who want to go for the sake of going" is really harsh- I don't know about you, but as far as I'm concerned i want as many people as possible to hear coldplay's music and to share the love and joy they give to the world. Just because we consider ourselves to be hardcore fans does not mean we are above anybody else. If somebody is going just to listen to 'Yellow' and 'Clocks', then that's their choice. It's their right to buy tickets. I believe in equality, and while it's my desire to see all the fans pleased, this isn't always going to happen. At this point, I'd like to declare that my girlfriend is coming with me to the first Brisbane concert, and... well.....she's not a 'hardcore' fan - she listens to all the albums, but she's not hardcore. If i said to her "i'm gonna buy a gun and start a war" she'd probably think i was going to become a terrorist. However, she's coming because she wants the experience and likes the music.. she sees how much i love them and she wants to see them live too. And as far as i'm concerned, her and thousands of other casual fans have a right to see them live as well. I took her to Splendour in the Grass this year, and she wasn’t that keen on seeing moby, but she fell in love with him live. Live music is for everyone mate. As far as the link sharing and excess ticket buying was concerned, i agree with you - slack. That's probably where the problem lies in this. And by the way, I do feel for all the fans who missed out. I legitimately feel sorry for them - but by the looks of it everybody gets a second (or third or fourth!) chance soon! Listen, if i can give a bit of advice that isn't always possible on a school/work day -but if you can, get to a computer with Broadband and try for dear life on both the presale and the general sale! Don't wait - they will go!!! And if you want to be sure, go to visa preferred seating now and buy them. Or else it may have to be ebay... Jess's situation is a tough one - but you can't just to conclusions and assume that her not being able to get GAs was the fault of people sharing/ over purchasing. The truth of the matter is, there was only a limited of number of GAS available, and nowhere in the email did it guarantee GAs (it didn’t guarantee any tickets – just an opportunity).. Reading back through this thread, again I feel for Jess and yes the guy who posted the email was in the wrong. But i think they would have went quickly anyway. I know that i was on there at 12 on the dot to get mine. Jess's situation is crap - but maybe it's a good lesson next time to get in early (i'm not having a go a you Jess btw - just presenting an unfortunate reality of the internet age). Well, I know I’m probably going to get flamed for this post, but I assume you I’m saying this not out of malice but just to present another opinion. I want everybody on here to get the tickets they want and to have a ball in June/July next year!!! Best of luck everybody in the presales and general sales – have some faith!!! :) Phil

AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
General Sale Hey everyone Just a hint about the general sale on monday. I got tickets yesterday in the presale (2 GAs for Brisbane) and just to let you know that i collaborated with this clock: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=240 I kept on refreshing the ticketek page for the ten minutes before, but when i refreshed the clock and it said "11:59:57", I immediately refreshed the ticketek page and the offers came up wheras when i did it ten seconds earlier it didn't.. in other words, this clock seems to be pretty much in sync with ticketek's servers. Just a hint that may help!!! Good to see everybody thinking positive! You'll get tickets i'm sure. I've said it before and i'll say it again - it's cliched.... but.... ...everything's not lost :) Phil
