Coldplay Live 2003 DVD - Special Packaging
Just in case anyone is interested... I was so curious about this that I bought another copy of this special edition DVD/CD. This one works as it's supposed to - as in, when you pull the CD tray, the DVD tray pops out the top. What was going wrong with my original copy was the plastic band connecting the DVD and CD trays had snapped - I didn't realise, as it was such a clean tear, I just presumed it was by design. As the band had split, the trays slid in/out independently, and they could both easily be removed entirely from the outer package, which is not supposed to happen. The band that connects the two trays is supposed to be a continuous loop around the inner cardboard divider between the DVD and CD compartments. This way, when one tray is pulled out the bottom, the other pops out the top. It also prevents the trays from being fully removed from the outer package. Also, I contacted EMI/Parlophone in London by letter to see if they would replace the missing booklet from my original, factory-sealed copy. As it's been so long since this was originally made available, I wasn't expecting to get a replacement, or even a reply, but a helpful member of their Press & Promotions section got back to me and is trying to obtain a replacement for me. Even if it doesn't materialise, at least it was a nice gesture from the label to a fan.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking! (about the plastic band being supposed to go over rather than under the central cardboard divider) But it seems not long enough to go that way. And when I took the cellophane wrapping off, I'm pretty sure it was going under the divider as you describe yours to be. Anyway, thanks for the helpful input on a difficult-to-describe issue. Hopefully now I can just get the issue of my missing booklet resolved.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I've contacted the seller about the missing booklet. I'm a little suspicious about the claim that the item is "new". Even though it was factory sealed, apart from the missing booklet, the disc holders also have some scuffing - as if they've experienced plenty of previous sliding in and out (though the discs do look pristine). Looks like more than the expected amount of shelf-wear to me. I did also manage to find the manufacturer of this packaging online. At least I was able to see how the box is supposed to look open and closed... http://www.burgopak.de/73.0.html?&L=5 Their catalog says, "A Burgopak generally consists of three parts - body - pull - pop. The body is the outer pack. The pop and pull form separate sliding elements which move in opposite directions when opening and closing the box. Pulling on the pull causes the pop to pop out in the opposite direction from the body." I still find it a bit strange though. As soon as I took the cellophane wrapping off, I removed both disc holders and I just can't seem to re-insert them in such a way that pulling the "Pull" makes the other disc holder slide out the top of the white box. If on the other hand, both disc holders are supposed to just slide out the bottom (and possibly don't even slide with each other?), the whole packaging design just seems superfluous.

Could somebody please explain to me how this box works?! I just received this today, and I can't figure it out! Does the CD disc holder slide down and the DVD disc holder slide up? Or do they both slide down? Are both disc holders supposed to be connected, i.e. if you pull the CD disc holder down, is the DVD disc holder supposed to slide up or something like that? What's the purpose of the plastic band connecting the CD and DVD disc holders? Are the disc holders supposed to never really be fully removed from the outer white box? Also, is there supposed to be a booklet in this package? Both discs refer to a booklet, and there seems to be a rear pocket that would be suitable for one, but I didn't get any booklet. (Item is supposed to be New, from an Amazon Marketplace seller.) Sorry if I'm not being clear. You certainly need to see this special packaging version of Live 2003 to know what I mean, and even then, I hope what I've asked is understandable. I've never seen this kind of packaging design before. Thanks
