  1. I'm not even sure they'll do that, not as a physical release. They might end up doing it as an iTunes exclusive EP accompanied with 4 or 5 live tracks from the VLV tour.
  2. Is this song from the VLV sessions? Thanks for the song! :)
  3. I'm a little the same with Fix You and The Hardest Part, I never understood their success as singles. In fact, X&Y was a pretty strange album for its singles, I expected songs like Low, X&Y and White Shadows to be carrying the flag for that album. Speed of Sound was a terrific choice of first single though. Isn't it interesting how the band choose what you think are the least suspecting singles for radio? I mean that in general by the way, not just in Coldplay's case. REM have been a little like that with their previous 3 albums too, they never quite choose the singles that you expect them too.
  4. Hey Annie! :) Welcome, i'm Joel, from Melbourne, also at Uni. "Clocks" got me into Coldplay, but like you, A Rush of Blood to the Head was my first Coldplay album. Do you have VLV?
  5. VLV is my favourite Coldplay album too. LIT, it's not surprising that the album doesn't appeal to you. Cast your mind back to all of those interviews with Chris where he stated that the band intends to break away from their signature sound and try new things. Naturally, that's a direction which won't please everyone. It happens to the best bands out there. There were even Beatles fans who felt cold after listening to Revolver and Sgt Peppers, so its nothing new. But I hope you do grow to like it as it has much to offer. I've found that some of the more timeless albums aren't always the ones that strike a chord with you first. Best of luck :)
  6. I apologise in advance if this has already been covered, but according to a recent article in NME, Coldplay state that an unreleased track titled Lunar with Kylie Minogue is to be released on an album due for release in 2009. What do we think the chances of this are? I remember when X&Y was released, Chris had said in an interview we could expect a new album the year after X&Y, but as we know, that didn't happen. Would be nice though... [ URL]="http://nme.com/news/coldplay/37056"[/url]
  7. This is something that has been on my mind since I first became a Coldplay fan. Many people I talk to see Yellow as the quintessential Coldplay song, possibly even their anthem. I can't get into it like everyone else, to me, it's just a formulaic, mediocre pop-rock track. Musically i'm not thrilled, lyrically I can't connect with it. Then there's beautiful, ambient and sonic tracks like Clocks which to me stand above Yellow. I just haven't warmed to it, in fact, Yellow is why I was so delayed in buying the Parachutes album, only to be surprised by the non-singles. Have I gone mad? Where does everybody else place Yellow?
  8. Great thread idea, Joely! Here's mine: Main Show 1. Square One 2. Low 3. God put a smile upon your face 4. X&Y 5. Lost! 6. Spies 7. Strawberry swing 8. Violet Hill 9. Trouble 10. Speed of sound 11. Lovers in Japan/ Reign of Love 12. Viva la vida 13. Clocks 14. Twisted Logic Encore 1 15. Cemetaries of London 16. Yes 17. Cast no shadow (An acoustic solo performance dedicated to Noel Gallagher) Encore 2 18. The scientist 19. Shiver 20. In my place
  9. I actually thought Limp Bizkit were ok, I got their fourth album when it came out, Results May Vary which had the Behind Blue Eyes cover on it. The album was apparently unpopular with their fanbase because it dispensed with a lot of the thrash that they were known for in favour of alternative and melodic rock. I quite liked it, it demonstrated the maturity and growth of the band. As for the Faith cover or Rollin', the more aggressive LB tunes drive me up the wall. But I think the media really contributed to their death or hiatus. A lot of people exaggerated their poorest qualities and enlarged them to make it look as though it defined them as a whole. I'd much sooner buy an album by Limp Bizkit than by Creed *shudders at the thought*
  10. Billy Corgan: Hi, we're the Smashing Pumpkins Homer Simpson: [nervous] and...i'm smiling politely.....
  11. Johnny certainly is entitle to his opinion, there's no denying that The Sex Pistols were at minimum as big as Coldplay back in their day, but music changes. I'm sure there's a lot of Jazz and Blues artists from the 40's who had something to say about The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, it's just a never-ending cycle. In fact, as a University student, I look back at school students today and the way they conduct themselves in public and think to myself "pathetic...". I suppose it's all relative.
  12. Thanks chuck :D Just remembered to add The Smashing Pumpkins to that list.
  13. God may have saved the Queen but he clearly has more work to do on Mr. Lydon.
  14. I suppose there's elements of A Rush... in it from time to time, but I think overall this is a major step forward for the band. The saturation of church organ coupled with a hip-hop type back-beat on Lost, the middle-eastern twang on yes, the ambiance of Life in technicolour. To me, just those songs alone seperate this from the previous trillogies of Coldplay releases. I think the most "Coldplay sounding" song would have to be the first single, Violet Hill.
  15. I couldn't believe it when I read it, in fact, I read over it twice more just to make sure that I hadn't missed anywords like "dislike", "don't" or "abominable". But, after closer inspection, our Chris appears to be quite a Limp Bizkit fan: http://=http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20201383_20201387_20206487_2,00.html This isn't so strange though. Metallica's James Hetfield is said to be a massive follower of Elton John and The Beatles. Meanwhile, Marolyn Manson has said in the past that Oasis' Be Here Now is his favourite album of all time. Just to finish, Megadeth lead singer and guitarist, Dave Mustane, also said in an interview that Crowded House's Don't Dream It's Over is his favourite song of all time. Artists can be strange and enjoyable like that can't they?
  16. Thanks, Sandy! :) What's the consensus on the new album around here? I hope everyone loves it as much as I do! They really deserve the recognition for this album, more than they did for X&Y, I hope it spreads like a wildfire.
  17. Hi everyone, my name is Joel and i'm from Melbourne, Australia. I'm currently a University student, aged 23 and of course (most importantly), i'm a Coldplay fan! I've been a fan of Coldplay since the "A Rush of Blood to the Head" era. The song Clocks was the spark which ignited my passion for Coldplay. Until the release of Viva La Vida, A Rush of Blood to the Head has been my favourite Coldplay album. Already, Viva La Vida has exceeded my expectations and stands out as a remarkable masterpiece. The album is infallible in my opinion and is a welcome departure from the less inspiring X&Y. So: 1. Viva La Vida 2. A Rush of Blood to the Head 3. Parachutes 4. X&Y Other bands I enjoy: - The Beatles - The Rolling Stones - Crowded House/Neil Finn - Oasis - REM - U2 - Paul Weller - Radiohead - Pearl Jam - Metallica - Tom Waits - Joe Henry - Paul McCartney - The Smashing Pumpkins - Sting - The Police - Travis Can't wait to chat to you all soon! Here's hoping for a 2009 Australian tour.
