So if I burn a few hundred thousand copies of Coldplays latest album, print out the artwork and sell it for $5 cheaper then they can and become the more popular seller of it it's cool with you? The one in Coldplay or Joe? :D :D Lets face it, if the shoe was on the other foot you would all be jumping up and down and screaming blue blood murder about some other band ripping off Coldplay. Bollywood movies are made in India, it's a little hard for the American or Brittish law enforcement to do anything about something that happens in an entirely other country.

I'm not refuting that it doesn't happen to other bands, I just mean to the extent it is happening with Coldplay, and from other largeish respected artists, not just John Smith, the guy who sold three records and never made it anywhere out to grab cash. I'm also not argueing that any of you should "convert" to another artist or the merits of either band/artist.

I'm not trying to gain any converts, just rebut some of the Satriani bashing going on. I have, from reading this thread, noticed Coldplay have been the attention of a lot of plagiarism accusations, this strikes me as rather odd for a band of it's popularity. Sure, you could argue that away by saying all the other artists are just after money but it doesn't seem to happen to many other large bands. Perhaps it's the generic nature of rock?

People measure success in different ways, Joe has great success and is renowned amongst his peers. It's kind of like saying a professor whom is looked upon by all of his peers as someone to be revered is less successful then a guy who appears on a science show on TV and garners a lot of fans. Edit: I've already slept :) I'm just here to be the little angel voice to all the little devil voices of people who blindly accept Coldplay could do no wrong :)

I think you'd be hard pressed finding a guitarist from any genre who *hasn't* heard Joe Satriani.

Hey hey, c'mon. I did a google image search for "Coldplay fans" and this was the one at the top in the middle. I know they're english but do you guys really need to follow the english teeth mantra? It's just taking it a bit far :laugh3::laugh3:

That too, but come on, after watching the clip with some slight tweeks a lot of people can recognise Satriani. Honestly, no matter how much you guys deny it he is already pretty darn public, it's not like he needs a great deal of publicity. I'm sure he/his lawyers know it'd be a hard case to put through a court, what would work better? Making a small announcement on his website saying it's his music in the song or launching a public suit. Which do you think would reach more people? I think this is more about recognition then publicity. He sells out shows already, might get him some new fans I guess. How many people here went and listened to his music? Perhaps in a few months when the rage settles there might be a few that recognise it to be favourable enough to them to buy an album or two. That 30 seconds is "the hook", it's the major part of Coldplays song, without it the song wouldn't be what it is. The "dude" is not "probably just jealous". I'm quite sure he doesn't want to make music like Coldplay or he would already, I'm quite sure he doesn't want to change his music to suit the masses to make money or he would have already.

On a serious note, less trolly here. I'm trying, I really am: I don't think he'd need to win it. If he truly feels he's been ripped off filing a law suit in such a litigious society is enough to make it public enough for him to get some recognition.

Wish I could be as epic as him but I'm not :( I always figured him as a coldplay fan though. Yeah I agree with that comment, I dislike bands such as Dragonforce etc, everything needs to be done right and done well, not flat out showing off throughout every song. But I like my music to have some technicality (is that a word) to it, that said I do enjoy basic rock (AC/DC, The Who ... even The Beatles etc etc). I listen to a pretty broad cross section of music, not only "Metal" or rock though, I just listen to more metal then anything else. Because I got home early from a gig sober and bored, saw it on youtube and a heap of comments and something linked to here, thought I'd sign up and pass some time.
