I want to do some kind of art course

Featured Replies

So, sinced it looks like I am going to have a whole summer for myself I am thinking of what I can do with my free time....I don't want to waste that precious time I am going to have and I've been thinking of doing an art course or something like that

I went to a pottery's workshop with my parents yesterday and they had some beautiful stuff and I found it fascinating....I feel like it could be something that's fun doing

I consider doing a pottery course....there is a pottery's workshop not far away from where I live and they are offering courses...

I really feel the drive of being creative, but I haven't tried too many things (except music...playing instruments, etc...)...I feel like I want to do something new which is fun and where I can hold the result in my hands afterwards....

maybe I can keep doing the stuff as a hobby after I've done an art course......

what other things would you suggest me?

Did you try something similar before and was it fun?

I've been thinking of painting or writing, too

It's a great idea to keep yourself busy. Be flexible with it though. You don't want to be tied down to it. It should be something you do for enjoyment.

Art is a good idea, you have your saxophone too, you can maintain your blog and reading is also rewarding.

I won't tie myself down to it that's for sure....I think i just want to experience some new things...well try new things which are fun and which I could consider doing as a hobby...

ahhh thanks for reminding me of my blog...I am sure that I will have some good ideas for it when I am free and in a better surrounding than I am right now....I can put some effort in it then....

another question that I am asking myself (slightly having to do with this) is if I should look for work for summer to earn some money or if I should get unemployment pay....I am not sure how to feel about getting money by the state without doing anything for it....on the other hand I know that it is only for some months and I will probably never as free anymore as I am going to be this summer.....I know that if I get into another job after my apprenticeship I won't have too much time for things that I enjoy....and I have the feeling that those things are very important (that's what I've learned during the last 3 years)....I know it is always the better decision to earn money, because money seems to be everything, but I am afraid we forget to enjoy the time we have...and I am afraid it is not as easy as I want it to be (of course)

oh well...I'm not sure

(ok, if you guys don't mind...I am going to create another thread about this..:uhoh2:)

I say go for it! Do whatever you think is fun or you might enjoy!

I don't know specifically what you should do, but I've always thought it be cool to do some painting.

also I didn't know you had a blog... link?

I've been thinking of doing a painting course before but I didn't get the chance yet. I hope I will though.

Oh and about my blog Haha well there is nothing on it yet I have just created it. I will post a link when I am on my laptop again. I should put something on it soon though I don't want it to be just anything.

ok cool! well when you have it set up be sure to send it!

I think painting would be really cool. My dad has been watching this one guy paint, and show from start to finish and he's amazing. It's something I'd like to try sometime, so you should really try if you can!

Oh I can even post a link in here without having set anything up. Maybe you guys can suggest me what I could put on it or something like that.

I find painting fascinating and I have always enjoyed it in school for example. The only problem is that I have never been that good at it which is a shame. I really feel like I want to something that has to do with art even as a job If I was just talented enough. I am talented in making music Yeah but I have never made it to write my own stuff. On the other hand I feel like I could even more creative If I did something art related that hasn't to do with music. But I have never been talented enough that's why I never tried it again. I think some kind of art course can also show me If I am really as bad at it as I think or if I can do better than that.

I say you should try it anyway. I mean you might have a hidden talent, that you don't know of until you do it.

Also I don't think you can necessarily be bad at art since it's all subjective.

You should though try to write your own stuff musically. Do you play any other instruments other than sax?

Maybe you will find you have a hidden talent in pottery- then you can sell your pieces on a site like Etsy !

(my favourite site)

I studied pottery for a while once. It's a lot of fun, and very relaxing. I miss it. I would be very surprised if you didn't like it.

Right now I'm learning how to make patchwork quilts. It's interesting.

If you're interested in drawing or painting or anything like that, go for it. Just start practicing. Classes will help shape what you've already started. If you want a good foundation, try the book "drawing on the right side of the brain" It's what a lot of art courses start everyone off with anyway.

Courses for whatever you're interested in are great because you get to interact with other people and see a lot of different examples of creativity on the same subject. But if you're good at self-teaching, almost anything you would want to know is up in youtube and other tutorials, and you can learn ALOT alot from just trying something with no idea what you're doing. In fact, sometimes with art, knowing the formal way to do something can interfere with your ability to use your creativity in that medium. (But pottery definitely takes teaching- throwing a pot takes specific non-intuitive skills.)

Oh thanks for these advices:) i've been thinking of getting a book about painting for example so thanks for the suggestion.

That's what I thought of pottery why aren't you doing it anymore?

They are offering courses in june. I am not sure If I am free then but I hope they'll be offering more courses this summer.

Another thing I want to try is writing songs Haha. I don't exactly know how I shall do it but I will try it.

you should write songs!

when I'm writing what I do is usually play a few chords and just see what sounds good and then build off of that, and then from there add lyrics and melody. It can be tough at times, but once you have a song that you can call your own it's very rewarding

I had to give up pottery because of a lack of time and money. I can't get back into it because of a lack of money and transportation.

But I always have a half-dozen creative projects going at any time, so they're always fighting for priority anyway. At the moment I have a quilt to finish.

I've heard that croquis is fun, you know when there's a naked living model and you draw sketches of her/his body. I, unfortunately, couldn't draw to save my life so I've never tried it haha but I've talked with people who like this art form.

Any artwork or music you do is good because you develope something that becomes part of you even if you don't do it professional like most things you study. You can always hang it up in your house or play music for your friends. It develops other parts of the brain.
