A U2 concert is more like a rally these days and Bono will whip up the crowd further by prancing around a circular catwalk on the band's March/April Australian tour.   If that's not enough arena-friendly rock for you, Coldplay tour in June and July.   Source: http://www.smh.com.au

MAX and Channel [V] are thrilled to present Coldplay's Viva La Vida Australian tour in 2009. On their last concert tour of Australia in June 2006, Coldplay sold out a total of ten arena shows, playing to more than 100,000 people, garnering rave reviews and leaving rapturous fans in their wake.   To celebrate Coldplay's return to Australia they're giving you the chance to catch them at one of their Aussie shows. All you've got to do is simply register to enter and tell them: In 25 words or less,

Christina Aguilera has broken the music industry sales drought. Her number one debut with 'Back To Basics' has generated around three times the sales of a number one record has been worth in the last few months.   'Back To Basics' sold around 15,000 units last week in Australia and finished a long way in front of Pink's 'I'm Not Dead' which did around 5800 units.   James Blunt 'Back To Bedlam' is the longest performer in the Top 20 with 56 weeks on the chart and Coldplay can claim the longest ch

Now that the final traces of Oasis fans have been politely cleared from the Odyssey, an audience of a different nature will be arriving tonight.   The latest sell-out gig in a bonanza week for the venue is Coldplay, with Rod Stewart still set for a Friday festive frolic before Christmas.   And if John Lennon once told the Royal Variety audience in the posh seats to rattle their jewellery, maybe Coldplay frontman Chris Martin will get his devotees to shake their charity wristbands.   Coldplay's s

Having watched Oasis return to form with a power packed display on Sunday night, I was intrigued to see how Coldplay would match up. They did not disappoint.   Taking to the stage with a huge roar after Richard Ashcroft had royally entertained the crowd, the foursome launched into a vibrant Square One as Chris Martin bopped about the stage like an excited teenager.   The lead singer's infectious enthusiasm shone out for Politik as he banged the keys to his piano, his entire frame reverberating

Last night Mia and I, and her old swimming friends Ida and Anna went to Globen Arena (incidentally, we live right next door), and saw Coldplay. I'm a casual Coldplay fan at best, and generally don't even listen to them unless someone else puts them on. Sometimes I think it's a bit gay to be a Coldplay fan, no? Last night was not gay.   Ida and Anna came over around 6pm, and since we only had a two minute walk to the Globen (which, resembles and enormous white golf ball), we had some dinner firs

Yesterday... 1st March 2006 at Strokes concert, NYC   “Oh and how funny was it when the show first started and all those technicolor light screens blazed, totally shocking the audience? I screamed out, “Holy crap! It’s a Coldplay concert!” It was only later when Kiran shouted at me, “is that Chris Martin?!?!” that I realized that Coldplay (or at least Chris, Will Champion, and Jonny Buckland) were actually present at the show. I guess they were just making sure their lighting equipment was being

Color me cautiously intrigued.   So, Coldplay are well on their way to completing their fourth album. The band's note promises that "the music still has integrity". Talk about a way more radical departure than anything Timbaland [pictured] could've cooked up...   That's about all we get for now, aside from some references to "dense" sound and "so many melodies and colours packed into a relatively short space (42 mins)". It's real and honest. It's light on details.   Sounds like the possible Timb

The dream is a familiar one for anyone who has ever picked up a guitar, switched on a keyboard, or plugged in a microphone: the chance to open for one of the biggest bands on the planet, in front of ten thousand screaming fans, at a sold-out arena.   Boston-based OurStage band The Luxury got that chance when they they were chosen by fans on a local radio station to open for mega-stars Coldplay at a sold-out TD Banknorth Garden. [All Brisbane first night reviews are here]   British supergroup Coldplay paid tribute to the Socceroos when they opened their Australian tour in Brisbane on Friday night.   Frontman Chris Martin made reference to Australia's qualification to the second round of the World Cup following the 2-2 draw with Croatia. Martin changed the lyrics in the song Politik with a verse saying, "Give Harry Kewell Australia's second goal".   In front of 12,000 fans, at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre complete w

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was stuck in an elevator for two hours in Australia last week.   The Fix You hitmaker was staying in a Brisbane, Queensland hotel, prior to the band's Friday (23JUN06) gig at the city's Entertainment Centre, when the elevator broke.   A hotel source says, "The lift broke down and Chris ended up stuck in there with a few other people for nearly two hours. He was bursting for the toilet when they were finally rescued."   More on this story here

In the beginning, lazy journalists were happy to tag Coldplay with the Radiohead sound-alike label. These days, pundits reckon every other new band is modelled on them.   "I'm not sure where the transititon happened between us sounding like everyone, and everyone sounding like us," ponders Chris Martin. "I didn't write any of the songs that are supposed to sound like Coldplay, and I didn't invent the piano."   The fact that Coldplay are seen as collectively responsible for a piano-led upsweep in

Coldplay have been confirmed as performers at next month's Brit Awards 2006, but Oasis [pictured] are set to throw the proverbial toys out the pram and boycott the Brits after they weren’t nominated in the Best Album category according to reports.   Apparently the Gallagher brothers are fuming that their latest album ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ didn’t make the final cut and will now stay away from the ceremony. They are expected to be nominated in the Best Live Act and Best Rock sections but seemi

The organisation behind the Brit Awards, the BPI, has a habit of portraying the Brits as a lovable but wayward pubescent. In the weeks before the show (next year's will be held on February 14) it always issues statements claiming that the Brits are synonymous with unscripted craziness - you just never know what will happen at the so-called music industry Oscars! Remember Jarvis v Jackson? Remember when implacable political opponents Danbert Nobacon of Chumbawamba and John Prescott came face to f

Beck's eighth studio album, Modern Guilt, is likely to end up with a final sales tally somewhere between 75,000 and 80,000 copies in its first week of release, according to Hits Daily Double.   That's good enough to debut in the Top Five on this week's Billboard album chart but not quite the amount needed to displace either Coldplay or rapper Lil'Wayne from the top spot. One of those acts will once again be Number One after several weeks of trading back and forth, with the loser likely to finish

Last summer, Coldplay was the hottest band in rock and roll around the world. Their "X&Y" topped the charts in more than two dozen countries a little more than a week after its release last June and remained there for nearly a full month.   Nearly 10 months after its release, it remains on the all-genre-encompassing Billboard 200 chart, with more than 3 million copies sold. Like their previous studio efforts, "X&Y" has a few anthems, but they tend to serve as pick-me-ups of sorts for a l

The English quartet have been stadium-sized superstars virtually since the first single, "Yellow," off their first album, 2000's "Parachutes," and their profile has grown with subsequent releases "A Rush of Blood to the Head" (2003) and "X&Y" (2005).   Their grandiose sound begs comparison to U2, but only if Bono and company had skipped their scrappier early material and gone straight to "Rattle and Hum."   When many bands make the leap from smaller venues to king-sized sports arenas, they

Like the other 1,099 fans who were lucky enough to see Coldplay at Metro last spring, shortly before the release of the band's album "X & Y," I was pretty sure Thursday's show at the United Center, the first of a sold-out two-night stand, wouldn't come close to matching the excitement of that much more intimate gig.   How could it? That would be like saying you preferred watching Michael Jordan on TV to playing a game of one-on-one with him.   Nevertheless -- and the fragility of many of the
