Ne-Yo's Closer has climbed one place to knock Coldplay off the top spot in the singles chart, but Vida La Vida remains Britain's number one album.   The title track stormed to number one last week from downloads alone, denying Ne-Yo a chart-topper in his sixth week in the charts. This week, however, Closer outstripped sales of Vida La Vida, giving the singer-songwriter his second UK number one. Jordin Sparks took the highest new entry with No Air, while Chris Brown climbed one place with Forever

SOMEWHERE IN THE VAST EMPTINESS OF CANADA -- Canadian rock musician Neil Young announced today that Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin was "the worst rock singer ever."   "The guy can't carry a tune," said famous caterwauler Young. "Have you ever heard a live Coldplay recording? Listening to his voice is like listening to a frightened cat trying to escape a pit bull by clawing its way up a chalkboard."   Young made his shocking statement while being interviewed on a Canadian public radio program

Canadian singer conjures more pop hybrid sounds on "Loose" After a year and a half spent writing new songs, traveling the world to collaborate with Pharrell Williams, Coldplay's Chris Martin and producer Nellee Hooper (No Doubt, Madonna), Nelly Furtado is finally ready to release her third album, Loose, on May 23rd.   "It was a very indulgent experience," says the eclectic Canadian pop singer. "It was actually the most idyllic sort of album-making ever. It's sort of every artist's dream, where y

The third album from Canadian singer Nelly Furtado is a complete change in direction.   Thanks to hip-hop producer Timbaland and The Eurythmics, the singer/songwriter has turned her back on pop for a sexier dance sound influenced by her favourite Eighties bands. Chatting to SFTW, she says: “Timbaland came to the studio with loads of CDs and music.   A standout track on Loose is All Good Things, which originally started off as a duet with Chris Martin. Label politics from Coldplay’s EMI meant it

Nelly Furtado has hailed Coldplay star Chris Martin for his impromptu songwriting skills, after he conjured a song out of nowhere for her new album Loose.   The pair joined forces to record the track All Good Things, which now features on the release as a solo number after Martin's voice was deemed too "rocky". But Furtado will never forget how the Clocks singer worked his magic on her disc - even though he insists his contribution was "shit".   "After we'd recorded it I asked him, 'Did you writ

Singer Nerina Pallot is headed for hits at the age of 30 - but says she'll be snubbed by bigger acts for slagging them off.   Nerina's first single from new album Fires - Everybody's Gone To War - seems set to be a hit. She has compared Coldplay's lyrics to "bad A-level poetry" and slated Green Day and Live8. She said: "I always think I'm the arbiter of good taste, so you have to take me with a pinch of salt."   Her album - out May 22, the same day she plays Edinburgh's Liquid Room - is alread

Thank you so much all your likes, comments and shares on Coldplaying FB :) I want to share with you a funny speech from Chris Martin, which I didn't get round to publishing during the time of the Ghost Stories Art Exhibition in December 2014.   It involves all members of the band, including fifth member (creative boss), Phil Harvey. Chris comments on the album cover for Ghost Stories, before it was decided Mila Fürstová would be designing the artwork for

'True Believer', a new Avicii track, featuring Coldplay's Chris Martin on guest vocals has finally landed but the reception from Coldplay fans was highly critical. One of the reactions from community member, Alisbe was:   "First time I didn't finish listening to a song where Chris is singing. I even prefer Homecoming rather than this song and I have to say I don't like Kanye's music"   While nvdmm is not planning to keep this track in their memory bank!   "I'm actually lost for words on

Initial details have been nailed down for the impending all-star recording of a "Band Aid III" charity single. A date has not yet been set for the new recording of the 1984 best-seller "Do They Know It's Christmas," but it will be released, like the original, on Mercury, Universal Music U.K. & Ireland chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge tells Billboard. Proceeds will again benefit the Band Aid Trust to aid famine in Africa.   "We're in the process of putting it together," says Grainge. "Logisticall

Coldplay are expected to return with a new studio album much sooner than originally anticipated.   The band told their fans that they were disappearing from the public eye at last year's Brit Awards, but a new CD is almost completed following the success of some recent recording sessions.   "There's no-one more surprised than the band. They genuinely did intend to take these sessions at a very leisurely pace," a source told the Daily Star. "However, they went better than anyone could possibly ha

As we were anticipating since late last night, Coldplay have announced today that the fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto (pronounced my-lo zy-letoe), will be released on 24th October 2011 (a day later in the US on 25th October) by Capitol Records. Discuss this news at the LP5 sub-forum now. Below is the Billboard article, who alongside the official Coldplay site, have reported first on the news:   Produced by Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson, with "enoxification" and additional compositio

Coldplay could release a new album as early as next year, as a follow up to X&Y (pictured).   Speaking in the US, Coldplay's manager Dave Holmes said that the band will tour North America again in February 2006, and there may be an album too.   He told Billboard: "They're definitely hungry to get back in the studio to make another record; they've got a lot of material. So for next year we're looking at building a tour around their recording schedule. Ultimately it could potentially mean we e

When, last Saturday, a Coldplay "torrent" appeared on the Bittorrent network, it was instantly picked up by any and all who had the good fortune in seeing it.   The torrent (those who don't know about Bittorrent, its peer-to-peer file sharing) was labelled as "After After Before," an unknown name to all. So it was quickly grabbed by everyone who had some previous affiliation with the band, instantly thinking it was the greatly anticipated follow-up to 2005's "X&Y." Unfortunately, unbeknownst

The Sun is reporting today that Coldplay are preparing for the release of a surprise album within a year of Viva La Vida hitting stores. Productive recording sessions with Brian Eno has left many more unused songs in the can, which the band are now considering releasing.   The Sun’s source at the label said: “The Viva La Vida sessions were incredibly fruitful. They gelled brilliantly with Brian and recorded much more music than they could fit on one album. Standard industry contracts tend to be
