10 years ago, as Coldplay were gearing up for world domination, shortly after the announcement of third album, 'X&Y', Keane's guitarist, Tim Rice-Oxley had revealed: He was close to being Coldplay's fifth member / keyboard player!   Keane were still riding on the success of their debut album, called 'Hopes and Fears'. They were part of the many British 'indie' bands who were ruling the charts during the mid-noughties and the have frequently drawn comparisons to the sound of fellow British b

Chris Martin and Johnny Buckland of Coldplay do Dylan, sympathize with Brad and Angelina, and put in a plug for fair trade.   You can watch the video here [8m9s]   [Video courtesy of CBC. Thanks EverydayIColdplay]

For all its radio hits, Coldplay has always seemed like the poor man's U2. In concert, at least in Saturday night's show at TD Waterhouse Centre, singer Chris Martin and his band mates gave that and a run for its money.   Coldplay delivered a steady stream of fan favorites, augmented by a gorgeous assortment of spotlights and video effects that were enough to make one forget that all the songs basically sound the same.   Compared with the odd lack of energy at U2's arena show in Tampa last fa

Last night, Coldplay performed at the Oslo Spektrum in Norway. As many artists have done when performing in Norway, Coldplay gave a nod to one of the most successful Norwegian bands ever. However they didn't stop there.   During the first encore, Chris Martin mentioned A-ha as 'one of our favorite bands of all time' and invited Magne Furuholmen to join them on stage to play 'Hunting High and Low.' Chris also said that Magne is 'the best keyboard player in the world.'   Related links:   'Lenge

It was not hard to see why the uber-hip Brit band Coldplay generates as much hype and hysteria as U2, the band they're most often compared to, last night at Scotiabank Place.   Women. Lots and lots of women. Glammed up and gorgeous, they were everywhere last night, making up most of the sellout crowd of 15,000 there to see the thinking woman's boy band. Why all these women made Coldplay's scene was easy -- who else is as cute and writes about women and relationships as affectionately as Coldpla

I’m writing this one from the Oxfam and Ucodep stall on the concourse. The crowd are singing along to a special acoustic version of ‘The Scientist’.. The hallway just got cleared.. I know what that means! Here they come..   The band just ran past the Oxfam stall. Chris Martin waved at some of the volunteers who were standing here. That was a good moment for us to remember. They are now back on stage, playing ‘Politik’. The stobe lights are flashing, and Will Champion is beating the life out of t

After an 8-hour flight from Sao Paulo, we arrived in Mexico City yesterday morning. The stark social inequalities were so apparent in Brazil, and things are no different here. There is a burgeoning middle class in Mexico, but a huge proportion of Mexicans are trapped in poverty, with few signs that things are going to change anytime soon.   The press here have picked up on a quote from Chris that Oxfam put out before the tour started. Chris says that Mexico is a great country with delicious tort

Campaigning in Mexico...   ...was a huge success! Jimena, Oxfam's wonderful campaigner in Mexico, reckons over 3,000 people signed the Make Trade Fair petition over the 2 nights. That's phenomenal! We had two tables inside the huge lobby, and our super team of volunteers wandered the area ready to talk to any of the incoming fans. Here's a few photos of our stall, and also the video screens at venue which were showing short videos about the campaign in Mexico.   Read the full updated blog here

Coldplay have been criticised here for the price of the tickets for their concerts. The ticket prices are not set by the band - in fact they were unaware how expensive they were until someone told them here in South America. They were very upset that this was the case, and gave away a whole bunch of tickets for free in Santiago and then in Buenos Aires.   Read the rest of the updated Oxfam Tour Blog.

Hi. We're in Sao Paulo in Brazil now. It's been a crazy couple of days. I arrived on Saturday night, feeling a little worse for wear after a heavy night in Buenos Aires on Friday. I was lucky enough to go for dinner with the band to a lovely restaurant. Then we went for a few drinks, which turned into a few more. Well, if you can't enjoy yourself on tour with Coldplay when can you?!   Suffice to say, I paid for it on the flight from BsAs to SP! On Sunday I met up with Jandira and Renato. Jandira

It's the morning after another incredible show here in Sao Paulo. The band are loving this tour - the audiences are amazing, and because they're playing smaller venues than normal, the boys are feeling really connected with the audience (mostly because Chris only has to reach out and the front row grab hold of him!).   And what's great is that the campaigning here in Brazil is going fantastically well too. We're definitely the most popular stall in the lobby - I feel like we're putting one over

Hello world! I’m writing this as I look over the view in my room of a very quaint Calgary, Alberta in Canada. We crossed the border into Canada on a 16-hour bus ride a few days ago after a string of amazing shows in San Antonio, Des Moines, and Omaha. The ride was the much-needed opportunity for my bus-mates and I to lounge in our pajamas all day and watch television. It also marked the end of the first leg of the US portion of the tour. I bet you’re wondering how Oxfam America did in terms of s

Hi folks! We rolled in to Atlanta on Saturday where we had a day off and a chance to poke around the great ATL. Last night’s show at Lakewood Amphitheater was electrified by the overwhelming energy of the audience, most of whom watched the show in the cold rain! On a cold and soggy day like yesterday where one would expect fans to be moody, I was heartened by the overwhelming support for Oxfam as well.   This morning, I woke up in Birmingham, Alabama. We’ve been in the south for a few days now

Five years ago a little-known UK band took to the stage at Metropolis City to entertain a crowd of less than 2000. Friday night's concert was a different story.   Since then Coldplay have developed in leaps and bounds. Literally. While most of those at the 2001 show were impressed by the depth of the songs and the obvious musicianship, the performance lacked lustre and energy.   The same could not be said of Coldplay's dynamic performance in front of a 16,500 capacity crowd at Burswood Dome last

A plea from jbarry5503 for the forthcoming show [the last in the final US leg of the Twisted Logic Tour] in Philadelphia...   The momentum is building... we have 8 people who have volunteered to print and pass out signs to hold up at the last U.S. show in Philly but we need even more!!!   The more we can get to help, the more amazing the guys will feel. This is the last Coldplay show for us in the U.S. for a very long time as they go off to create the best Coldplay album yet. Let's do all we ca

For those who haven't yet seen the pictures of Chris Martin at the recent Little Noise Sessions in aid of Mencap, you can see them here or here   Little Noise Sessions in aid of Mencap was a huge success!   The series of gigs ran over eight nights, each with its own highlight. The week included KT Tunstall, The Kooks, Paolo Nutini, The Guillemots, The Fratellis, Amy Winehouse, Noel Gallagher and James Morrison – and those were just the headliners.   On the final night, Jo Whiley arranged a surp

Coldplay dropped by MuchMusic’s MuchOnDemand on Thursday before they stepped on stage at the Air Canada Centre for the second night of their sold out shows in Toronto. The band is currently touring in support of their fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, which was released earlier this year.   After tonight’s show, Coldplay heads to the United States for three shows before embarking on a number of International dates. The Viva la Vida tour is set to wrap up in Munich o
