Chris Martin can make humility an act of hubris, and vice versa. He's as cocky and as insecure as rock stars come, a psychic balancing act reflected in his band Coldplay's crescendo/crash songs.   For instance, during a recent interview, the handsome, Bono-voxed singer says that the four hours he recently spent in a Miami studio with hip-hop producer Timbaland provided a bracing reality check — even while he acknowledges his own superstar status.   "I gleaned that it doesn't matter if you're in

LOS ANGELES -- With barely one movie under its belt, Starbucks is moving aggressively toward expanding its involvement in the entertainment business, seeking movies and books to promote in the hope of duplicating the success it has had with music.   The retail coffee giant -- which used its stores to promote "Akeelah and the Bee," a Lionsgate movie that opened this weekend -- is to announce today that it has signed an agreement with the William Morris Agency to find more movie and book projects

Debs Wild from the official Coldplay site has spoken of the latest offerings from Coldplay. This is what she had to say:   I went to the studio today to see the band, they are all in fine form and things are nearly done there. Chris invited me to listen to some of the finished tracks which was very exciting. Many people had been asking me something since The Nappies, so here it is officially from first hand knowledge and I hope you'll all be glad to know, there's not a rap or hip hop beat in si

PHILADELPHIA - Fans sat elbow to elbow in the packed Wachovia Center on April 4 waiting eagerly for Coldplay to take the stage. A mixed crowd-teenagers and adults alike-came to wish the band a memorable farewell on the last stop of their 2006 U.S. tour.   Sweaty palmed and ready to stand and cheer, I anxiously awaited the British quartet. The lights were dimmed for close to ten minutes while stage workers set and checked every guitar, microphone and especially lead vocalist Chris Martin's piano

Coldplay have teamed up with A-ha - well one member of the Norwegian trio at least.   Mags, who now goes under the name of Magne, performed a showcase of his new material in London last night.vHis solo album features collaborations with Ed Harcourt, Andy from Travis and Will and Guy from Coldplay.   Magne told us how it all came about: "It's a friendship network really - with Coldplay we met in Barcelona on tour. It's a friendly thing and we then came to realise that they'd grown up as A-ha fans

Last winter a young bluegrass group called the Abrams Brothers filed off their bus at the CMT offices after a long and snowy trip from their home in Canada.   Groups or artists stop by and perform here once in a while, but this band of two brothers and a cousin was especially memorable. They were definitely a bluegrass group and had the type of chops that would be at home on the Grand Ole Opry stage — which they played in 2005 — but being teenagers, they were also very eager to experiment with t

Coldplay are set for one of the biggest paydays of their career after been lured to play in the luxurious surroundings of a plush hotel in the United Arab Emirates.   The band are tipped to bank at least £1.4million for the gig at the Emirates Palace with all 15,000 tickets set to sell out immediately. Coldplay will play against a back drop of a private beach almost a mile long on the final stop of their world tour.   The band are the latest superstars to grace the venue with Bon Jovi, Justin Ti

Coldplay will return to Australia in February but Adelaide will miss out on the tour because of concerns with the city's leading venue.   Promoters are loathe putting shows into Adelaide until the cities major venue, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, is given its overdue facelift. $50 million was budgeted for a facelift for the venue but the South Australian government has been non-committal in moving forward with the plans. Coldplay last toured Australia in June 2006 when they performed 10 sol

Alan McGee called yesterday for the Brit Awards to be abolished - and branded this year's nominees "an embarrassment" to music-lovers. The outspoken Scots music mogul unleashed a volley of insults towards artists from Coldplay to Paul McCartney, insisting rockers should retire at 40.   Few of this year's nominees escape McGee's wrath as he casts an eye over the various categories. He is particularly venomous about mega-selling Coldplay, whose A Rush Of Blood To The Head is up for best album of t

When asked "How do you feel about your name being inextricably linked to the Mercury Music Prize when you made your now infamous quote about Coldplay?"   Alan replied, "I really regret making that Coldplay comment. It made Coldplay a lot more interesting than they actually are."   You can discuss this story here and you can read the full article here

With wireless song sharing on the horizon, the record industry is keen to avoid the tracks of its internet tears and cash in this time   It's enough to leave record-label executives trembling: researchers in Sweden are developing an application that could allow music to be sent wirelessly from one mobile device to another. It's a concept that threatens content owners' rights and, especially, revenue, just as illicit internet file sharing does.   EMI hopes to deter mobile music users from acting

While Chris Martin supports Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner, the frontman of the band, isn't so friendly.   In a Serbian Newspaper "Glas javnosti" an article about Artic Monkeys was published yesterday. In the conclusion you could find the following statement by Alex Turner:   "Why should we care about radios and 'round-the-clock moralists? We created our name on the Internet. Both newspaper and radio understood what's happening years after. It's disgusting being a band which plays the same thing al
