No not in a violent way. He talked to the Telegraph about working with 'the biggest band in the world'... and with Coldplay on Viva La Vida (see what they did there?). No one in the UK has taken pop music closer to art than Brian Eno...   Have you ever wondered where the burst of music comes from that announces that Windows on your computer is springing into life? It didn't just write itself. It lasts 3.25 seconds and is surely one of the planet's most widely recognised noises. The man who compo

This week's album chart has a definite Brit Award flavour, with the entire top 10 made up of winners and nominees, reports Virgin.com.   British Breakthrough Act winners Arctic Monkeys stay at number one for the fourth week running with 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not', while triple winners Kaiser Chiefs jump five places from seven to two with 'Employment'.   James Blunt, KT Tunstall, Jack Johnson and Coldplay all enjoyed strong sales after picking up awards while there was a new

The UK music industry got ready to don it's glad rags for last night's glitzy Brit Awards - but for a host of stars playing live at the bash, they had already got into costume. Here's a peak at Coldplay's dress rehearsals - essentially a run-through of the on-air show... (read full article for more pictures).   You can see the full album of dress rehearsal pictures at the Coldplaying Gallery here

The tickets to Elbow's show Saturday at the Avalon read "all ages," but perhaps it should have been billed "for mature audiences only."   It's not that the Manchester, England-based quintet's lyrics are laced with expletives, but its thoughtful, mostly midtempo rock is not recommended for those suffering from attention deficit disorder. Elbow's music is aimed at listeners who appreciate subtle musical flourishes and clever wordplay without being hit over that head with a hammer of power chords.

Twelve British music acts are to be flown to the US by the Government to help them make it big there - and boost our global music market share.   Ministers are spending £500,000 so KT Tun-stall, Goldfrapp and the others can perform at a music festival aimed at talent scouts.   Trade and Industry Secretary Alan Johnson said: "From the Beatles, through David Bowie to Coldplay, the UK music scene has always led the world but we have not always capitalised on our talent to break America. I want to

The Irish band U2 has given Britain its favourite song lyric, according to a survey released today. The line "One life, with each other, sisters, brothers" from the 1992 song One topped a poll conducted by music channel VH1.   Runner-up was the downbeat "So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home, and you cry, and you want to die" from The Smiths' How Soon is Now. A line from Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit -- "I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now,

Bookmakers have stopped taking bets on who'll take the Brit for Best Album Of 30 Years after a run of big money on Oasis, report The Sun this morning. They look dead certs to win it for (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - their second album released in 1995.   The band, who split last year, are up against Coldplay, Dido, Dire Straits, Duffy, Keane, Phil Collins, Sade, The Verve and Travis. However, the prospect of Oasis landing the gong has put organisers under pressure in case warring brothers

Their reunion after more than 20 years was widely regarded as one of the musical highlights of the past 12 months. But rock veterans Pink Floyd [pictured in concert] have been snubbed by this year's Brit Awards, with the band failing to make the shortlist for the year's best live acts.   Robbie Williams, who like Floyd performed at Live 8, has also been left out of the live nominations, which were announced yesterday. Pink Floyd re-formed, with bass player Roger Waters joining guitarist David G

Noel Gallagher remains tight-lipped on his duet with Chris Martin at Tuesday's Brit Awards, according to The Sun this morning. Here is their article:   Think Florence and the Machine doing You Got The Dirtee Love with Dizzee Rascal in 2010 and Justin Timberlake with Kylie in 2003. But Noel Gallagher and Chris Martin on stage together for the first time this Tuesday will be pure class. Coldplay frontman Chris suggested the idea to former Oasis guitarist Noel before Christmas and they agreed it wo

Coldplay's opening performance at the Brit Awards 2012 has become a "logistical nightmare" for organisers, reports are suggesting today (Monday). Coldplay will be the first act to play at London's O2 Arena ceremony tomorrow night (February 21st) and have had health and safety officers worried about the amount of pyrotechnics they are using for the set.   A source told The Sun: "It has been a logistical nightmare and for a long time organisers didn't think they'd be able to go ahead with the plan

UPDATE: The media got it wrong! Coldplay actually played Charlie Brown...   Coldplay are expected to take to the stage to perform Princess of China with Rihanna as they did at the GRAMMYs last week, while Blur, who will receive a lifetime achievement prize tonight, are set to perform an 11-minute medley. There are also whispers that Noel Gallagher will be duetting with Chris Martin, and other tributes to the late Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse are planned for the show. [Catch all the live dis

It’s a grey old day in London, but safe inside the not-very-warm-at-all Earl’s Court, Coldplay kick off the day’s rehearsals.   The lads are typically laid back and sound every bit as brilliant as you’d expect, but something is bothering poor Chris Martin. It’s not the state of the economy or the fact that all the brightly coloured tablecloths in front of the stage are making his eyes go funny, but the whereabouts of a certain legendary comedian.   “Whatever happened to Jim Bowen?” he asks the r

Bruce Springsteen revealed that Coldplay's Chris Martin had told him of the unique atmosphere at the Glastonbury festival, ahead of The Boss's headline slot on Saturday. Springsteen told BBC's Steve Lamacq: "Chris Martin said it was very special and it's very close to the English heart. I'd read quite a lot about it before. Every year when you get the British music magazines it's always a big feature so I know it's a special gig."   Bruce Springsteen became The Boss of Glastonbury after a two-an

When Coldplay debuts its arena show on Friday in Iowa, the occasion will rate more than just a gig for one of the band members.   Jonny Buckland, 31, will be on something of a family vacation. Buckland tours not only with Chris Martin, Guy Berryman and Will Champion - but also with his 19-month-old daughter, Violet, and his fiance, Chloe Lee-Evans. "We travel a lot together," Buckland said over the phone last month from his home in London. "We're just a normal family, kind of. A normal traveling

It doesn't look like Chris Martin and Coldplay are trying too hard to make up for cancelling last summer's dates in Edmonton and Calgary, writes the Edmonton Journal. Coldplay have just announced another North American tour -- and surprise, surprise -- neither Alberta city is on the list. Only Toronto (July 29) and a bunch of U.S. cities are included.   In an interview last year, guitarist Jonny Buckland said the band would reschedule the missed shows. "I think we'll definitely be replacing thos

CALGARY - When Coldplay released its debut album Parachutes in 2000, critics shrugged the band off as yet another poor man's U2. Even with the ridiculously huge sales of its 2002 follow-up A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay was derided by many as wussy pop music for girls, writes the Calgary Sun.   But almost a decade after its breakthrough, the British four-piece has proven itself as a credible U2 contemporary. In fact, with its fourth and latest release, Viva La Vida, the group inches even
