Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Love is in the air here in Santiago - well, certainly amongst the throngs of fans outside the hotel. There’s a real air of excitement in the city about Coldplay being here. And the countdown to tonight’s first concert of the tour is on!   I spent this morning at the Oxfam office again, going over the final details with Monica. She is the Communications Officer for Oxfam in Chile, and is helping me with the campaigning at the concerts. Luckily, her English is far b

We bet they all look good on the dance floor - if only they could get on to one...   The Arctic Monkeys were given the cold shoulder when they tried to blag their way into Another Music = Another Kitchen at Camden's At Proud bar on Thursday, despite pleading with the bouncers: "Don't you know who we are?" But the club was already over capacity and the doormen refused to let the lads in. Our mole said: "They turned up at 11.30pm with another band, We Are Scientists. But there were too many people

"See It In A Boy's Eyes", written by Chris Martin and performed by Jamelia, has helped the R&B singer take home the best single award at this year's Q Awards.   Meanwhile, Sir Elton John has accused Madonna of cheating fans by miming on stage, while collecting a Q Award for songwriting. As he collected his Classic Songwriter prize in London on Monday, he criticised live award nominee Madonna. "Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay £75 to see them should be shot," Sir Elton s

Chris Martin of Coldplay heard Naturally 7 on UK radio recently and was so impressed by their harmonies and their vocal replication of instrumental sounds, he flew home from Germany to catch their London show, reports A Capella News. He took producer Brian Eno and pal Natalie Imbruglia with him.   "We'd heard he was coming, but you never know," Naturally 7 singer Rod Eldridge says. "Sure enough he's hanging over this upper balcony with Natalie and Brian. It was pretty surprising."   Martin came

The acoustic set is traditionally regarded as the litmus test of a pop artist, a host of whom have, for the past week, been unplugging to play short sets at the Union Chapel to raise money for the charity Mencap.   Unbilled but making a surprise last-night appearance, Chris Martin is accompanied by a single violinist as he strums through two Dylan numbers, I Will Be Released and Buckets of Rain, and the Killers' When You Were Young. He then switches to piano for a song he wrote the night before

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin insists the band has "lots to do" before the year 2010. He says he plans to keep as busy as possible through 2009.   He explained to the media in the new year, "We feel bands need to fill their first 10 years, so we have lots to do before December 31, 2009. I know it's stupid, but that's kind of our deadline. We have to do something good by then. We've done some pretty good stuff, but there's something about the year changing to 2010.   I'll also be 33 that year, a

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has joked that the band will resemble Hulk Hogan at their 2009 UK stadium shows.   The group will play gigs in Manchester and Glasgow before concluding at London's Wembley Stadium on September 19th. In an interview with BBC Radio 1's Chris Moyles, Martin said the band would follow a strict fitness regime before the dates. "By the time we play the gigs we're going to look like Hulk Hogan,” he said. “If you're going to play stadium gigs you got to have pectorals."

Chris Martin has duplicated Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's idea to compare his band to the United Nations - and Martin insists he would represent the military might of America.   The Coldplay singer-turned-political campaigner admits he steals many ideas from Yorke - and this is one of his favourites, as he knows exactly which powerful country each member of Coldplay would be.   Martin says: "Thom Yorke once drew a parallel between his band and the UN, and he said, 'Well, I'm America.' And with

Coldplay speak of their direction shift...   Chris Martin says that Coldplay’s impending new album, due out this May, is so different to their first three that he’s fully aware “everyone might not like it.”   The band are currently busy putting the finishing touches to the record in North London with the legendary Brian Eno, and, speaking from the studio, they made it explicit that this album should be treated as a separate entity to their other works.   Guitarists Jonny Buckland explains: "We

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Coldplay's Chris Martin said: "'Thom Yorke ignored me at a hotel in Los Angeles.   I was secretly a bit gutted. I'm sure he recognized me. I always look at it like we're in a big musical high school and Radiohead is in the year above us and they still haven't come and sat with us at lunch.''   On Thom ''Cold Shoulder'' Yorke -- well, as Martin says, ''all our other favorite bands, like U2 and Oasis, have been great to us.''

Coldplay's chart-topping hits don't impress Chris Martin's baby daughter - she prefers to listen to obscure Icelandic rock music.   Chris has already refused to play one-year-old Apple Coldplay's highly anticipated third album X&Y, because she prefers the more diverse range of music present in her dad Chris and mum Gwyneth Paltrow's record collection.   He says, "She prefers an Icelandic band called Sigur Ros to Coldplay. She hasn't heard X&Y - we don't play it in the house. We played Si

Chris Martin insists all those new fans of the group who once bullied their old fans should find it in their hearts to apologise.   He is well aware that long-time fans of the rockers were picked on by other music fans because Coldplay weren't seen as being a real rock group, and now it's time their meek fans faced their former critics.   He says, "Our ambition is to have all those 15-year-old people, who got beaten up for liking us two years ago, is for them to have all the people that beat the
