Chris Martin 'mobbed' at The Hoping Foundation at Café de Paris, London (20 June)

Chris Martin was mobbed by a group of photo opportunists when he took a break from recent album recording sessions to attend the Hoping Foundation at Café de Paris, London on Thursday (20th June). Chris was at the fundraiser along with fellow celebrities Kate Moss and Jamie Hince, Stella McCartney, Hugh Grant, Noel Gallagher, Jemima Khan and Jessie Metcalfe. Read on for a selection of the photos and some of the media responses to them... check out all the photos here and here at the Coldplay forum now. [thanks Tash, wabbit & gai for the latest sightings]

The Mirror wrote: "We were actually in shock when we first saw these pictures and had to look twice to make sure they were real. But there’s no doubt about – that really is Chris Martin and yes, he really is flashing his pearly whites! And in public too! What are the chances? The Coldplay frontman is notoriously private and is never too happy when confronted with a camera, especially when he’s out and about, so to see him with a smile on his face while out on the street is a rarity. The 36-year-old was leaving the Hoping Foundation event at the Café de Paris where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Kate Moss, Noel Gallagher, Florence Welch, Hugh Grant and Stella McCartney.

And he’d clearly had a great night because not only was there a smile on his face and a spring in his step, but he was more than happy to stop to chat to the fans and be in their photograph, and absolutely laughed his head off as camera phones flashed around him. One fella, who clearly couldn’t believe he was standing next to the Viva La Vida star and put his arm around him like he was his new best mate – a few minutes more and he could well have been!"

Them at Perez Hilton wrote: "Beliebers, you've got some competition because Chris Martin's fans are CRAY! The Coldplay singer was spotted leaving The Hoping Foundation summer party at Cafe de Paris in London when the fans freakin' swarmed him like white on rice. And can we just say, damn, they must really love Yellow! The fans grabbed onto Chris and snapped away about a million bajillion pics of the singer who seemed, oddly enough, ridiculously up for it all. We didn't think he could get more awesome, but that look on his face is priceless!"

The Daily Mail continued: "Earlier, those in attendance were entertained by singers Florence Welch, Patti Smith, Seasick Steve, Jamie Hince and Rizzle Kicks and comedian Russell at the charity event which raised almost £340,000 for Palestinian refugee children. Welch sang Marvin Gaye’s Heard it Through the Grapevine with The Kills’ Jamie Hince - a performance described as a 'one-off'. There were also stand-up comedy sets from Russell Brand and Alan Carr. Legendary punk singer Patti Smith kicked off the evening with a rendition of her biggest hit Because The Night. Guests enjoyed a menu from Michelin-starred chef Skye Gyngell, with champagne providing refreshment."
