Nice work Wyrd! Thank-you so much for all your help! :D I'm going to try to get some of 50 to 26 up tonight, but I have to run out again soon and won't be home till late tonight. Very sorry for the delay. For those wondering, the top 25 countdown (or top 50 depending on tonight) will begin at approximately 6:30pm tomorrow, EST.

Albums of the Year 2011 - The Countdown
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, music lovers of the world, welcome to our countdown. :juggle:    Albums have been created, listened to and voted on. And now thanks to the amazingness that is Wyrd, lists have been tallied, points have been awarded, and at long last a winner has emerged. Wyrd has graciously agreed to take over the first part of the countdown, so I will step aside and hand this over to her as soon as she is ready. Until that time, talk amongst yourselves. Who won? Who didn't live up to expectations? Who came out of nowhere? Are Coldplay still kings of the board? Anyone want to bet on the top 5? (Bonus points if you get it in order) Which albums will still be remembered 20 years from now? :gossip: Let the countdown begin. :vanish:

^Thanks Wyrd. Sorry I haven't managed to keep up with this as much as past years, guys. It looks like the countdown will be very soon. Also, I completely managed to forget to post the standard points system we use every year, so here it is. Some people like to have a space to keep lists in progress and talk about albums. This traditionally starts in late September or early October.

It's time for our annual albums of the year poll! To get us started, I'm pasting in last years version of the rules. Updates to follow. In the meantime, talk amongst yourselves and post lists-in-progress here. The idea: Make a ranked list of your 5 to 25 top original studio albums released this year. There will be a countdown of Coldplaying's favorite new albums after the deadline. The deadline: 9AM EST Monday January 2nd The rules: ~ Original studio albums only, please. No EPs, live albums, reissues, or compilation albums. Soundtracks must be primarily original material. For example the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack was not eligible, but the Scott Pilgrim original score was eligible. ~ A list must have at least 5 albums to count. You may list up to 25 albums. Lists must be ranked by the deadline. ~ Albums must have been originally released between December 1st 2010 and December 1st 2011. The original release date is the first official release date in the US or UK, whichever is first. International-only releases go by the first official release date worldwide. ~ You may edit your list at any time up to the deadline. Post your tentative lists here and I will post a link to it in the second post. The list I link to will be the list I count, so make sure you edit your original list or let me know if you post a new one. ~ Digital-only releases are welcome. If an album has a split 2010-digital and 2011-physical release date, the physical release is eligible this year ONLY IF the digital release did not receive any votes in the 2010 poll. Unofficial leaks do not count. ~ Please number your albums and write the artist name before the album name. For example, #1. Radiohead - In Rainbows (This will save eons of time and will help you find out the results much sooner. Thanks.) ~ You may vote for Coldplay`s Mylo Xyloto, however, since it has an unfair advantage over other albums on this board, it is not eligible to finish in first place, but rather is defending Coldplay`s status as `King of the Board`. So Does Anyone Want an Albums of the Year Poll This Year?
33 Yes votes. That's enough people for a pretty good list, so I guess it's happening. Thanks for your support guys. :nice: I'll start the official voting thread when I get back on Monday. About Mylo Xyloto: like Viva la Vida it will be defending Coldplay's position of undisputed king of the board but will be ineligible for #1. That way it gets special attention when it wins by an inevitable landslide but the bias shouldn't affect the overall rankings too much. Besides, if it wasn't first, that would be...interesting. :wink3: :laugh3: Thanks for the attention, Ian! I think a bigger crowd is a good thing- more chances for obscure albums to get a vote or two, and drawing the fangirls down here to be exposed to new things might be good for them (and eventually our sanity)- lists like this were always great ways for me to discover how vast the music world actually is when I was first getting into new bands and new styles of music. Ok, we definitely have to do the list again. I have no idea what any of those are... yet. ...Which is why I'm still here. :smug2: Exactly  Um, that sort of sounds like what we do- make lists of up to 25 albums and assign points based on rank. Someone make the Florence album hurry up and come already. :bomb: Oh my word if I like the rest of the songs half as much as the two singles, it will probably be my number one for sure. 'Shake it out' has to be one of the best crappy morning songs ever.

So Does Anyone Want an Albums of the Year Poll This Year?
Because I'm totally up for it again if enough of you are. I know I haven't been around here pretty much at all lately (life changing at warp speed blah blah...) so I'm not sure what sort of mood or whatever the board has been in or what you've already been up to, but it is sort of a tradition and a fun one I think. For the new around here, every year we make a ranked list of our favorite albums that came out in the past year. In Decemberish I combine the rankings and come up with a board-wide countdown of our top albums. It's a great way to discover new music. :hat2: So who's in? Questions? Comments? Suggestions?

Is This the Most Hate?
Oh, there's always been divided opinion when something was new, at least from X&Y on. People fought. People came and left. There have always been immature fans who took things too seriously and people who liked to wind those fans up. I haven't bothered to check much of it (why bother? it can't be good for you psychologically), but from what I've seen, the level of vitrol is new. But it's exactly like that across the entire internet now. I can't think of a single board for anything I used to be on 10 years ago that hasn't had a serious downgrade in civility within the last 3 years. I guess it's just a new generation of kids with a new set of expectations. A deep breath and a grain of salt go a long way.

It's clear: "Paradise" - made for new, not old fans
Great thought. You're probably right. On one hand with that I'm like, oh great I'm going to have to listen to more crap about Coldplay being bland and mainstream and blah blah... And then on the other hand I'm thinking that anyone who cares what a bunch of hipsters think missed the whole point of music in the first place. Also, Chris loves Timbaland. It's documented. He likes Justin Timberlake and Beyonce and so on. Sometimes being really true to your creative muse means going for what you really love and want to do even if it is pop. Maybe bottling that instinct up would result in the rock part of things sucking because they were putting limits on themselves. On 5th listen, it's still not my thing, but that's fine. I don't think it's bad and I still have Charley Brown to listen to. Tracie! *waves* :D Hello.
