  5. Ancient Egypt was a long-lived ancient civilization in north-eastern Africa. It was concentrated along the middle to lower reaches of the Nile River reaching its greatest extension during the second millennium BC, which is referred to as the New Kingdom period. It reached broadly from the Nile Delta in the north, as far south as Jebel Barkal at the Fourth Cataract of the Nile. Extensions to the geographical range of ancient Egyptian civilization included, at different times, areas of the southern Levant, the Eastern Desert and the Red Sea coastline, the Sinai Peninsula and the Western Desert (focused on the several oases). Ancient Egypt developed over at least three and a half millennia. It began with the incipient unification of Nile Valley polities around 3500 BC and is conventionally thought to have ended in 30 BC when the early Roman Empire conquered and absorbed Ptolemaic Egypt as a province. (Though this last did not represent the first period of foreign domination, the Roman period was to witness a marked, if gradual transformation in the political and religious life of the Nile Valley, effectively marking the termination of independent civilisational development). The civilization of ancient Egypt was based on a finely balanced control of natural and human resources, characterised primarily by controlled irrigation of the fertile Nile Valley; the mineral exploitation of the valley and surrounding desert regions; the early development of an independent writing system and literature; the organization of collective projects; trade with surrounding regions in east / central Africa and the eastern Mediterranean; finally, military ventures that exhibited strong characteristics of imperial hegemony and territorial domination of neighbouring cultures at different periods. Motivating and organising these activities were a socio-political and economic elite that achieved social consensus by means of an elaborate system of religious belief under the figure of a (semi)-divine ruler (usually male) from a succession of ruling dynasties and which related to the larger world by means of polytheistic beliefs.

  7. there is update In 1954, Egypt completed negotiations with Britain onwithdrawal from the Suez Canal and dissolved the Britishmilitary bases. At the same time, Egypt was negotiatingwith the United States for military assistance. Israel wasalso trying to offer some proposal for political compromisewith Egypt. Israel was watching these contacts with the Westernworld concerned about its own political future. Israel'sobjectives at the time were: 1. Geographical expansion at the coast of Syria andJordan in order to complete the boundaries of Israel beforeany political compromise. 2. Breaking the Arabic force. 3. Convincing the United States that Israel is thenatural ally and not the Arab states. In order to achieve these objectives, Great Britainand the United States needed to break down the contactsbetween Egypt and Great Britain and on the other side, Egyptand the United States.2 For that reason, the Israeli military intelligencecreated undercover groups to carry out terrorist operationsin Egypt. That group was supposed to report directly to theIsraeli Defence Minister, who at the time was Benhas Lavon. The group arrived in Egypt in June 1954 and was joined byanother group already operating within Egypt. They began aseries of terrorist operations such as: bomb attacks on theBritish theater in Cairo; on the main Post Office; and onthe Cairo bus station. They even tried to set some ofCairo's theaters on fire. It was unclear whether thisaction was aimed at the British or American interests. Butas a result, it delayed negotiations between the three andany effort for political settlement between Egypt andIsrael. During the arsonist's try in Alexandria, PhilipNatason, leader of the group's 13 other members wasarrested. Ten other members were also arrested, but twomanaged to escape from Egypt. In October 1954, the EgyptianInterior Minister announced the arrests. After one week, they were referred to the Military Court. In January 1955,the Court ordered the execution of four members (two inabsentia) and jail terms for six with two being found notguilty. In Israel an investigation committee was formed. Thetask was to identify those responsible for backing thegroup. Was it the Defence Minister, Lavon or the Directorof Military Intelligence? Even though no specific answerwas reached, the Israeli Prime Minister asked for theresignation of the two officers and they resigned inFebruary 1955.
  8. terrorism A terrorist could be a revolutionary, and arevolutionary could be a terrorist according to one's pointof view. At the same time, a terrorist is seen through theeyes of the whole world as being a criminal committing acrime against humanity, while the terrorist acts as a judgeof the political system it is trying to change. In his book Terrorism, Walter Liqueur mentioned thatterrorist movements would usually start as small groups, while researchers will concentrate usually on large groups.Liqueur noticed that terrorism always claims defending somecertain aspects of our time. Some undisciplined forceswould float on the surface of the ideological strategy ofthe leftists or rightists which always provide those moreinterested in violence instead of liberty and justice. As a matter of fact, terrorism has a lot to do withpolitics. "The concept of politics based on the saying thatit is social activity supported by the force of law in orderto ensure the external security and internal unity in aframe of political unit keeps order in the middle ofdisputes which might be aroused due to the interests andopinion diversities."1 But at the same time, it does notmean terrorism cannot influence politics, or terrorismcannot achieve its goals. Due to terrorism's interactionwith politics, it can offer a major problem which is thecomplexion of the political relations from both the enemyand friendly point of view

  11. and First MASSACRE AT DEIR YASSIN. Between 9 and 11 April 1948, over 100 Arab townspeople were massacred by Jewish paramilitaries in Deir Yassin near Jerusalem in the British Mandate of Palestine. The incident was pivotal in modern Middle East history, becoming in one Israeli historian's words, "a landmark in the chronicles of the Israel-Arab conflict and a symbol of the horrors of war."(1) It greatly stimulated Palestinian Arab refugee flight and appears to have been critical in the final decision of the Arab states to intervene directly in Palestine in 1948 to thwart the creation of the state of Israel. The Deir Yassin incident, therefore, is intimately connected to the two main issues that have defined the Arab-Israeli conflict: the armed hostility to Israel by the Arab states and the enduring Palestinian refugee issue. to more details http://www.questia.com/PM.qst;jsessionid=GdGQ0zTy1RR3sVfTBGk1dLtCfXxQcs6qFNjnwGbLKYls5gmND8hy!68860294!509813057?a=o&d=5000970058

  13. more he latest statements of the Iranian President Ahmedi Nejad who questions Holocaust and raises doubts about its existence. Al-Hussaini writes, "Ahmedi Nejad is not the only one in the world who criticises the "myth" of Holocaust. Many others across the world do the same. If the West is serious about freedom of thought and speech they should tolerate the opinion of Ahmedi Nejad."<BR>Al-Hussaini is right. Every one should be free to believe in Holocaust or not. Privately, many Germans and Europeans do not believe in Holocaust. However, the pressure of the Jewish lobby in Europe and America has been so powerful that no official in the West dare question Holocaust. In Germany, for example, people who publicly deny Holocaust are imprisoned up to one year. Also because the Jewish lobby is so strong, nobody dare criticise this law, which contradicts freedom of speech. It is also obvious that Holocaust has become a Western "complex," inculcated in the heads of lots of Western officials. For such officials, Holocaust is the vilest atrocity that mankind has ever committed, although other peoples elsewhere in Vietnam, Algeria, the Armenians in Turkey, and Der Yaseen in Palestine, for example, have also suffered from atrocities comparable with Holocaust or worse. The question is why only holocaust is highlighted. <BR>Don't twist facts, please <BR>Saad Al-Enezi discusses in Al-Rai Al-Aam (Dec 23) the 7th Report of the US State Department about religious freedom world-wide including Kuwait. Al-Enezi criticises the report and labels it as being "biased." He lists some of the "practices" which the report describes as violation of religious freedom in Kuwait and tries to defend them. The report of the US State Department "claims" : <BR>1. Mosque preachers and school books in Kuwait propagate anti-Semitism. <BR>2. Bahais, Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists are not allowed to have their own temples. <BR>3. Kuwait does not allow private schools to teach other religions than Islam. <BR>4. Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men unless they convert to Islam. Non-Muslim women are forced to convert when they marry Muslim men.<BR>5. Non-Muslim maids and servants are put under pressure to convert to Islam. After they convert, they get a better treatment by their employers. <BR>6. Kuwaitis who switch religion and gender are subjected to persecution and stigmatisation. <BR>7. Kuwaiti women get half the amount which their brothers and male inheritors obtain from any inherited property. <BR>8. Two female witnesses are required to equal one man-witness for testimony in court. </P> <P>Al-Enezi claims that all of the above allegations are not true. Here is a summary of his reply: Non-Muslims are allowed to have their own private temples. Nobody is forced to convert to Islam. Nobody attacks Judaism as a religion. Maids and servants are free to keep their own religions. Women as inheritors get half what men get is due to the fact that women are always supported by men, a husband, for example, who is the principal earner of bread for the whole family. A woman as a witness equals half that of a man is due to her 'period," which prevents her from thinking and recalling events properly. <BR>Al-Enezi can claim and defend whatever he wants. But he cannot twist facts. Some Non-Muslims, maids/servants, and Kuwaiti women are discriminated against in terms of religious freedom, inheritance and court testimony
  14. Chapter one Terrorism is not an Islamic or Arabic invention or Palestinian innovation. It is a unique instrument in the political turmoil in modern times. At first, terrorism was known as an expression and practiced two centuries ago. While the organized and unorganized wars are sold as human kind, terrorism did not crystallize actually until 1773. It was during the "Reign of Terror" in France in the 1790's when the English and French termed the word terrorism. During the French Revolution, Robespierre and St. Just practiced political violence on a large scale. Out of 27 million Frenchmen, 90,000 were beheaded and 300,000 were jailed. Political violence can be a revolution if it succeeds in bringing down a regime and seizing the power of the ruling class as evidenced during the Russian revolution in 1917. It can be terrorism, if it succeeds in creating political unrest, as in Latin America. A terrorist could be a revolutionary, and a revolutionary could be a terrorist according to one's point of view. At the same time, the world considers a terrorist a defendant to be trailed as the terrorist acts as a judge of the political system it is trying to change. The first half of the 20th century saw numerous wars while the latter half, only the Iran-Iraq and Gulf war. Presently, political movements are adapting violence and guerilla warfare as a means to achieve their aims. Recommendation: What is required for countering terrorism is cooperation instead of confrontation or imposition of one's will upon another. History teaches us that some countries are leaders who are instrumental in the formation of worldwide policies. The need to utilize the United Nations to enforce laws and rules according to logic and ethics is extremely important in the world community.
