[9-Sep-2012] Coldplay @ Paralympics Closing Ceremony, London, UK (please post your reviews for Wiki,
We have to remember that this was the Paralympic Closing Ceremony and not a Coldplay concert! The fact that they played a lot of their songs was a fantastic bonus since I'm a big fan! I noticed the songs were chosen very carefully to fit into the occasion so no Fix You, In My Place and Politik to name but a few. What makes this concert one of the best ones ever was the ability to use the pyrotechnic equipment which I'm sure was going to be used for the Closing Ceremony in any case but Coldplay, big stadiums and pyrotechics was going to be a spectacular affair. In fact, I really don't think Coldplay could ever beat the amazing lighting and fireworks last night. The weather was mild and got a little chilly near the end but with little wind. I actually loved the fact that for the first time in years(!), they actually played the songs as it sounds on the CD apart from God Put A Smile where they always do some sort of off-beat version. Rihanna was....Rihanna and Jay-Z was...Jay-Z. There were a few people bemused but there was a good smattering of Coldplay fans where I was sitting. Elderly couples clapping to Viva La Vida, kids jumping up and down to Charlie Brown. It was definitely situations which you would never find again but it was all the more heartening. All-in-all, a magnificent Paralympic Closing Ceremony topped off with Coldplay, Rihanna and Jay-Z doing what they know best!

[1-Jun-2012] Coldplay @ Emirates Stadium, London, UK
Excellent gig tonight. Colourful and uplifting. Very polished but they looked knackered! Not surprising since they have just come back from the U.S tour. I thought it was going to drizzle all evening but it stopped just after they came on. So many songs to choose from their catalogue but a lot from A Rush Of Blood To The Head. I did like Singin' In The Rain and the stripped down version of Speed of Sound. Fairly big age range which shows their appeal. It was a shame that there was no guest appearance from anyone a la Simon Pegg or even Rihanna (not asking for much!). I think that this will be the last tour for quite some time so enjoy it while it lasts! Ash and Marina and The Diamonds were excellent.

Steve Lamacq played the first ever Coldplay single on his Evening Session show on Radio 1. Brilliant documentary. It is capping off a great weekend.

Here are some grainy videos from Friday and Saturday. I was standing on Friday and sitting in the clouds on Saturday (where the mobile Mexican wave started!) No soft drinks (vending machine) broke and no sweets available. Hopeless. I think they played tighter today than yesterday but I think even Chris was in awe of the stadium yesterday and played/sung better.

I didn't recall any setlist change from yesterday. Even Chris lying down on his back after Viva La Vida was in the identical place!

Another great performance tonight. It was raining heavily at the start of the set. No Simon Pegg tonight and Jay-Z came on for Lost.

Were you standing or seated? I was standing about 30 rows from the front in the centre and I thought the atmosphere was fantastic. The crowd around me knew most, if not all of the songs and were singing loudly. I'm seated tonight and expect a different sort of atmosphere. I noticed early on that most were sitting on their seats until the usual favourite songs were played. I reckoned it was 1hr 50m but I've paid the same price to see 90 minutes of a turgid Premiership football game and do you think those players care about the fans? The fact that the band trekked near the back of the stadium (for the Simon Pegg segment) and utilise the side stage (right stage from our standing position for God Put a Smile/Talk mix, Hardest Part) suggests that at least they made an effort.

Chris kept saying that the crowd and sound was fantastic. Great venue and acoustics. I'm glad the Knebworth plans were shelved.

Simon Pegg is one of Chris's best buddies and turned up at the O2 gigs last December and did an identical impromptu act. Nothing wrong with Coldplay and Jay-Z doing Lost (Prospekt's March EP). I'm going again tonight and it would be awesome if Beyonce turned up for a collaboration.
