How about the electronic wizardry within the music? Was there still a lot of pre-recorded backup for some of the new songs (the violins, the sitar, etc?)

It kinda seemed like it. It was humorous and amusing...but it did near the point of running the joke into the ground.

Here's some perspective for you: When I saw Bob Dylan last year, his setlist was around 20 songs and under 2 hours. And he's got a considerably larger catalog to select from.

I did notice a disclaimer on the way in, on the post right before the ticket scanners. However, I'd wager this is strictly an "in case" posting. The Garden probably has a deal with Fuse to film the concerts if Fuse wants to show them, or clips, but may not currently have any plans to do so. It may not be a curfew, but I would wager that the road crew, stage hands and most Garden employees are union, which means there is the possibility of needing to pay overtime wages. This is pretty much the case at most arenas (I'd guess) these days and why a majority (though by no means all) concerts typically end around 11:00.

Totally understandable. But remember, not all "complaints" are in fact ungrateful. Some are just wishful thinking, minor disappointments, or other let-downs.

Not the BEST place, but if your choices are going there versus not seeing a show you want to see...I'd take the Izod center over nothingness any time.

Ah, a good point. But I think you're safe in this case. I used the bus to see Barenaked Ladies a few years back. You can call closer to the date (mid September maybe) just to confirm. It's actually really smooth as long as you head to the bus right after the show. As for the Izod center itself? It's a fine place to see a concert. Not the shiniest and newest of arenas, but no sightline issues to speak of, and the sound is just as good as anywhere.

Couldn't agree more. He was defiantly having fun throughout the night. Even (or especially?) when things went less than perfect. As for the length of show/setlist... I wouldn't be surprised if what it's been so far is pretty close to what the general tour will see. VLV is selling better than any of their other albums...which means a lot of people that haven't bought Coldplay in the past are buying now. To appeal to the greatest common audience, they can't ignore these people that are, shall we say, late to the party. Politik is awesome, What If, well, the list goes on, we all have our favorites. But the new album and the big radio hits are going to appeal to those CURRENTLY being marketed towards. Putting a bubble around the long-time fans is not going to help the group grow their fan base.

A poster, 4 regular t-shirts and 2 ladies. 2 of the regular t-shirts, on the back, list them as from the June 23rd, 2008, Madison Square Garden performance.

I actually prefer when a band doesn't do an encore. I would have preferred Coldplay have a longer set tonight, but that's a different story. To me, encores just seem like excuses for the band to get that added jolt of applause. I say, get out there, do the show, play the songs you want to play, the ones you want your fans to hear, and put on a kick ass show. Don't tease us with 3/4 of a show then make us beg for the rest :-P That being said, the guys did put on a great show tonight. It was especially nice when they came up RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR SECTION (the gap between 101 and 133) to sing Yellow. The magic balls were VERY cool! As was the staging for the whole show...save for Violet Hill. The staging was WAY too dark and, save what you could see on the one ball, could barely see Chris or any of the guys. My only other real objection was based more on wishful thinking than anything. With some of the musical leaps they've taken with this album, I was kinda hoping to see some of it come to life. I was really hoping to hear some live orchestration. Especially the violins in Viva. They seemed to rely too much on pre-recording back-up for some of the more impressive musical choices...but again, the band themselves are still the awesome music act we've all come to love. Oh, and Jon Hopkins...errr...what the hell was that I saw? Just not my style. I didn't HATE it, but I know I didnt really care for it. Didn't feel like I wanted that half hour of my life back, but defiantly didn't take anything valuable away from it.

Got mine. Time stamped 2:05 am this morning. And remember, all, supposedly, for some odd reason, the USPS tracking only updates overnight, not in real time....

It's just after Noon on the 9th.... When do the posts start about people worrying about their Address Confirmation e-mails.... Oh, I guess they do now ;-)
-
New York show winners are ....
Right. It says that now. On the third, when we got our winning e-mails, and went to submit our mailing addresses, it said the 6th instead of the 9th...which is why the winners have been watching their mailboxes today: to get the email confirming that MusicToday HAS the mailing address. But as has been pointed out, that confirmation has been pushed back to the 9th. But I would still assume that confirmation would come in the form of an e-mail.

Was that your "you're a winner" e-mail or the confirmation that AFTER receiving that one that they also got your mailing address. It's this second confirmation that the winners seem to all be still awaiting...

Just to shed some more light on the situation: Just heard that WPLJ, radio station in New York, has tickets for the (and I quote) "Coldplay Fan Appreciation Concert at MSG" and will be giving them away. I can only assume there are some other radio stations doing the same...this should go somewhat in making sure that MSG is filled with music fans and not empty seats and/or industry insiders. As for the posts about "coldplayers" vs people who just want to go to a free show...well, I find that argument fairly hollow. My wife is a bigger fan than I am, yet I am the one who hangs out at the message boards. I'm sure that a vast majority of the people who went through the effort of of entering a contest to SEE COLDPLAY are at least as big of fans as MOST of us here...and, as in any contest, some will win, some will lose.
