So if I burn a few hundred thousand copies of Coldplays latest album, print out the artwork and sell it for $5 cheaper then they can and become the more popular seller of it it's cool with you? The one in Coldplay or Joe? :D :D Lets face it, if the shoe was on the other foot you would all be jumping up and down and screaming blue blood murder about some other band ripping off Coldplay. Bollywood movies are made in India, it's a little hard for the American or Brittish law enforcement to do anything about something that happens in an entirely other country.

I'm not refuting that it doesn't happen to other bands, I just mean to the extent it is happening with Coldplay, and from other largeish respected artists, not just John Smith, the guy who sold three records and never made it anywhere out to grab cash. I'm also not argueing that any of you should "convert" to another artist or the merits of either band/artist.

I'm not trying to gain any converts, just rebut some of the Satriani bashing going on. I have, from reading this thread, noticed Coldplay have been the attention of a lot of plagiarism accusations, this strikes me as rather odd for a band of it's popularity. Sure, you could argue that away by saying all the other artists are just after money but it doesn't seem to happen to many other large bands. Perhaps it's the generic nature of rock?

People measure success in different ways, Joe has great success and is renowned amongst his peers. It's kind of like saying a professor whom is looked upon by all of his peers as someone to be revered is less successful then a guy who appears on a science show on TV and garners a lot of fans. Edit: I've already slept :) I'm just here to be the little angel voice to all the little devil voices of people who blindly accept Coldplay could do no wrong :)

I think you'd be hard pressed finding a guitarist from any genre who *hasn't* heard Joe Satriani.

That too, but come on, after watching the clip with some slight tweeks a lot of people can recognise Satriani. Honestly, no matter how much you guys deny it he is already pretty darn public, it's not like he needs a great deal of publicity. I'm sure he/his lawyers know it'd be a hard case to put through a court, what would work better? Making a small announcement on his website saying it's his music in the song or launching a public suit. Which do you think would reach more people? I think this is more about recognition then publicity. He sells out shows already, might get him some new fans I guess. How many people here went and listened to his music? Perhaps in a few months when the rage settles there might be a few that recognise it to be favourable enough to them to buy an album or two. That 30 seconds is "the hook", it's the major part of Coldplays song, without it the song wouldn't be what it is. The "dude" is not "probably just jealous". I'm quite sure he doesn't want to make music like Coldplay or he would already, I'm quite sure he doesn't want to change his music to suit the masses to make money or he would have already.

On a serious note, less trolly here. I'm trying, I really am: I don't think he'd need to win it. If he truly feels he's been ripped off filing a law suit in such a litigious society is enough to make it public enough for him to get some recognition.

Wish I could be as epic as him but I'm not :( I always figured him as a coldplay fan though. Yeah I agree with that comment, I dislike bands such as Dragonforce etc, everything needs to be done right and done well, not flat out showing off throughout every song. But I like my music to have some technicality (is that a word) to it, that said I do enjoy basic rock (AC/DC, The Who ... even The Beatles etc etc). I listen to a pretty broad cross section of music, not only "Metal" or rock though, I just listen to more metal then anything else. Because I got home early from a gig sober and bored, saw it on youtube and a heap of comments and something linked to here, thought I'd sign up and pass some time.

I haven't argued that he's better, I'm just argueing against the "ignorant and arrogant" opinions of all the coldplay fanboys that this "no body" who "sucks" has "no right to sue our dear coldplay boys who could walk on water then turn it into wine". Yeah well, people would need to have heard of him to call him an asshole :) They only gave credit once it was pointed out. Not sure how they expected to get away with it though. They tried putting it off as "we were inspired by" but eventually they wrote to kraftwork to try to dodge a lawsuit, it worked. Once again, "fanboy" is a term just like "postman", it isn't a gender. So you were 14 years old and the epitome of fine musical pallet. OK then.. I'm not saying that people of all ages don't like Coldplay, I'm sure a lot do, I am just saying that it's mass-marketed pop, the biggest buyers are young teens of pop marketed to (and made for) the masses. Now you're arguing my point. They're music that's board-room produced to make cash, they make bland music that people can tap their foot to while doing secretarial work or playing nintendo. The music is MADE to appeal to the masses, made to be generic, of course it's going to sell well. I understand the technical intricacies of Joes work will confuse you and thus bore you. I understand you are Miss Average Joe Smith (excuse the joe :) ) and you are excited by basic music.

I'd prefer it that way actually. If I had to see the latest craze jumpers running around in Satch shirts, putting Satch stickers on their cards, telling everyone how much they're in love with Satch I wouldn't like it. Actually, I would, it'd be good for him but I'd prefer he continue making his style of music rather then be signed to a major with producers being shoved down his throat telling him how to write his music so it will be more "pop" and move more units. Edit: In 20 years Coldplay will have been a phase, some now 35-45 year olds will fondly remember going to a concert and kissing a boy/girl. Satch will still be a benchmark of guitar technique though. Also, does anyone else find it funny Coldplays album came with all that copy protection trash to stop people "stealing their songs". LOLOLOLOLOL. Pity there was nothing put on the producers ears to stop him telling the band to steal this song.

Yeah, it's easy to win grammys when you don't have to compose your own music and then you have a producer telling you how to package your stolen songs so they will sell more to tweens I guess.

Ahh, I was just spurred on by all the "who is this idiot" and "he sucks and has no talent" posts by the fanboys and girls. Thought I'd point out the technical superiority of this guy who "sucks" so bad.

Of course he's not played on the radio much, he's not a mass produced product. Play the clip I linked above and tell me you've never heard that tune (other then in a coldplay song probably lol). When was the last time this "Jonny Buckland" was invited on a G3 tour for being revered as one of the three best guitarists in the world? Never? Please don't try to compare a master musician with someone who throws together some basic guitar work.

Hi Littlewhiteshadows. I notice you say you're 22. Coldplay seem to have been around since 1996. This would put you squarely in the young teen fanboy (a term, like postman) category. Or did you only start listening when they gained more mainstream success by hiring pop producers to help make music more easily marketed to young teens? Thanks for playing "lady".
