Which singer would you have chosen to do Princess of China's female vocal?
Not one of my favorites on the new album, but I thought Rihanna was great on it. As others have said, seems more like a Rihanna song than a Coldplay song.

U.F.O. chords?
I don't have the best ear, but this YouTube cover sounds right to me and he lists the chords: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuXVorVy2zU]Coldplay - U.F.O (Acoustic) guitar cover - YouTube[/ame]

[9-Dec-2011] Coldplay @ O2 Arena, London, UK
I'm over here in the U.S. so I wouldn't be going to any of these shows anyway, but I just want to echo everybody's thoughts on how broken the ticket/Ticketmaster system is. I'm sure it will be the same exercise in futility trying to get tickets for shows in the states next year. It's very annoying when fans of the band can't get tickets because scalpers want to make a quick buck.

Cultural references in new songs...
Not sure if this counts in the same way, but I remember in the Rolling Stone interview with Chris a few years back, he said the Violet Hill line "a fox became god" was referencing Fox News.

Whats your favourite lyric out of all the new songs?
I really like the "light a fire" part in Charlie Brown and the "raise the flag" part in Teardrop. Both are just great moments the way they are built up to.

After hearing some of these songs, how do you feel about a "concept album?"
True about the recurring themes/lyrics, this does happen just as much in X&Y as Viva. It just seems to me like the songs on Viva are more related to one another and there might have been more intention when they made the tracklisting, in a sort of conflict-resolution type way. I think the hidden songs/extended outros like Chinese Sleep Chant and Reign of Love are also meant to add to this in some way. Whether or not that makes it a concept album I don't know, but I think it's a formula they might follow again to some extent.

I don't think it's the same concept they started with, but there definitely seems to be the recurring theme of "us against the world" or rebellion, or however you want to classify it. There have already been some recurring lyrics, and the new songs seem to be pretty related to one another in subject matter. Mixed with the graffiti/street imagery and thematically it reminds me a little of modern Green Day with American Idiot/21st Century Breakdown. I like Coldplay much better and trust their originality, that's just a comparison that popped into my head recently. I don't think they want to tell a story as intentionally as Green Day does, but I think if a person wanted, they could fill in the blanks and pull a story out of Viva, and I expect the new album to be similar in that regard just based on what we've heard so far.

Where did the instrumentals on that account come from? Add these to other b-sides from the past, and I'm amazed at the high quality of some of the stuff they don't end up using.
