I'm somewhat bored of this place.

From what I know it wasn't because its relation to the book, it was more the lack of things that do a good story. According to them was plain, predictable... There were even laughs in the part that the girl discovers she's Jesus descending. I have neither seen/read the movie or the book. That's just what I heard. ;)
