Please do not buy "Live Aid 20"

Dear Coldplayers:

I read this morning on BBC online, Entretainment section, a news which probably most of you know, but I wasn't aware of it, entirely. There is a single coming out this Christmas, I don't know exactly when they are going to release it, and it's entitled "Live Aid 20".

"Live Aid 20" is the 'modern' version of the single "Live Aid", which was released 20 years ago, and it was a huge success at the time. It was dedicated to the Ethiopian people that were dying from starvation. The 'new' version is dedicated to the people in Daffur, Sudan.

I do not believe that the people working in this single want to make proffit out if it, but I do think that they don't know what they are doing. I haven't said it once or twice, I've said it many times: To give them money it's a very short term solution, and I'm not even sure If it will benefit them.

Just thinking that when you buy the single you are helping the people there, it's not good. What do they do with the money? Where does it go to? I don't ask this questions because I think they are stealing it, but because what's the so-great thing that they are doing? why aren't we being informed? (well, there is the probability that I'm the only one who doesn't know). Over the years, we have seen how these massive programs do not work as you would expect. For me, the clearest example in why the first "Live Aid" single was made; for the people in Ethiopia. How are they now? Better than before? How many are they know? Twice as much! Morally, everyone thought they had to keep them alive, but didn't we just fed them?

Problems are not solved like an apple falling from a tree. They need time, thinking and hard work. Throwing them food from airplanes or raising huge amounst of money does not help them If you haven't got a plan, otherwise it's just a placebo.

I have entitled this "Please Do not buy "Live Aid 20" because I think it is crutial that before you say to someone "ah, I bought this new singles which will help the people in Daffur, Sudan", you get informed.

Just in case you hadn't really got it.

Meh, I'm not buying anything anyway :dozey:

I'm not sure if the idea is just to pass along the millions to those people - more to use the money to be able to give them tools, provide them with local water supplies, etc (I'm not too educated on the situation), so that they can earn a living for themselves.

Plus is Band Aid 20 :P

I dn't know what they are going to do with the money either, that's why I say that we need to get informed first, demand the information and thanks :D

this warning will fall on deaf ears... the single WILL go platinum, it WILL go to number 1, and it WILL be the fastest recording-to-release single of all time. Sorry!

Everything that BBB says is true - unfortunately. This is because the "target audience" are like sheep who will buy anything irrespective of the quality. I just don't think it's very good, and pales in comparison to the original. The new effort sounds "passionless" and a lot of the vocals are extremely weak.

I would far rather see every artiste each release a song individually and donate something from that for the fund.

In other words: donate money to the cause, yes. Send a second-rate single to number one just because of it, no!!
