September 24, 200520 yr Just trying to open up a mini discussion. I hope no angry fans flame me. Previously, I said I didn't like the mix, cause they sound so overmixed this time around, as compared to AROBTTH. I was thinking over this for months. I realised I didn't pick up the album as much, cause it wears me out with each listen. Who honestly says they don't get sick of listening to the same material over and over... That's how you memorize it, btw. THey don't sound smooth, like AROBTTH. I'm not an experienced musician, but sometimes I feel that a chorus is just there for the sake of it to complete the song. I mean, like planted/ disjointed. *points to What If* ... It begins softly, then in the middle, the guitar sounds - it's like a jolt of a person asleep right out of the bed. In fact, I was looking forward to an acoustic version centred round the piano. *points to Square one* ... there is no clear indication of where the chorus is, just the blaring guitars. Unlike In My Place, having the dispersive clash of cymbals just before the chorus, and a crescendo. 'White Shadows' has some droning in the background when they should give emphasis to the screaming guitars. Listening with earphones gives mild discomfort at hi-pitch. The most catchy song on the album is Talk. Personally, I much prefer the quieter songs - Hardest part, Swallowed in the Sea (should be longer), Kingdom come. Anyone? I'm waiting for Yellow #2 to materialise.
September 24, 200520 yr Author Why is the album called X & Y? Q. Why is the album called X & Y? Is it something about human chromosomes (genes)? XY chromosomes specifically refer to males. And XX genes are seen in females... I figured 'X & Y' genes will produce a male. I'm wondering whether it's about being male chauvanists, or a male-dominated band. I also don't think that they mean the rock arena should be dominated by males. Or is Chris hoping for a boy next? :D or does X & Y have some alternative meaning? - as to the song on the album... it is extremely suggestive of... erm... something (reminds me of meiosis, or production of sex cells in a biological context) or is it explicitly describing the X-rated process itself?? "I dive into the deep... end - u become my best friend..." "Singing... oohhh..." Oh man. :wink3: Why is the artwork in a binary code? Is it because it displays the Make trade fair symbol?
September 24, 200520 yr dude you are not going to get a definitive answer from this board. you are over-analyzing this way too much. the album blows at times you are right. i suggest you ask debs these questions and not the board. we have heard them all ten times already.
September 24, 200520 yr the X&Y is just about two different things and something to do with two parts to the album, as you may have noticed the tracks are listed X 1-6 and Y 1-6 ... anyway i think the albums great and just Coldplay developing their music into a slightly different sound and not every song has to have the chorus building up through a crescendo - there are many ways of doing this :)
September 27, 200520 yr my complaint is that they made a gorgeous album and tehir next album must be better.so they mustnt make very very good albums :P
September 28, 200520 yr I'd also like to know why they called it X&Y If I tell you, I'll have to kill you :wink3:
October 1, 200520 yr It was alright, but its not as good as AROBTTH. I never get sick of listening to AROBTTH, but X&Y can tire you out after a while. :)
October 1, 200520 yr i think many people dont like X&Y because after releasing an amazing, wonderful, perfect album like AROBTTH, we expected something equal or much better than that, and our expectancies were really high---X&Y is a great album, but it doesnt reach that high----so now we compare it to AROBBTTH and we think it sucks--but they are both great :P
October 1, 200520 yr hm...x&y ? i see it this way: AROBTH and parachutes are like beautiful roads and x&y is like in the middle of them both, a crossing. there are few songs I adore, and few I don't, but i see that more and more listening gets that first few (the ones I like) even bigger pile. talk-speed of sound-fix you-square one-till kingdom comes and the latest one i adore is swallowed in the sea... :) but the rest...there are like shadows of past, good shadows though..
October 1, 200520 yr Well, X&Y is an album of transition, in my opinion... Coldplay demonstrates the search for a definite sound, trying on new stuff... it's not their best, but some songs are excellent...
October 2, 200520 yr thats weird, i dont think that there is a bad song on it...and X&Y doesnt that refer to something like maths, and X&Y means that there is like a definate answer or something, i swear i heard one of the boys say that
October 11, 200520 yr Only a small one the copyright control. It doesn't allow me to play it while I'm on here and surfing the net.
