While the debate rages as to whether the festival calendar is already over-saturated, news reaches us of two more being plannned for next summer - a 'mini T In The Park' and the Isle Of Man's first major music event...

 

With no Glastonbury Festival taking place this year it was perhaps inevitable that a whole new crop of festivals would spring up in attempts to fill the void. Some have worked, others have half-worked, several have completely fallen by the wayside and many more remain to be seen.

 

But it seems the explosion of new festivals will not be limited to only this year. Already there are reports of two new outdoor music weekenders for 2007.

 

Newspapers in Scotland have been carrying a story suggesting that a "mini T In The Park" is being planned on the banks of Loch Lomond, in Balloch Castle Country Park.

 

Organisers have pencilled in the date of 4-5 August and the local council have expressed support for the project, buoyed by successful concerts by Oasis and REM at the venue in recent years.

 

VF understands that the two-day event will release 20,000 tickets for each day and will host a main stage and a dance tent, with Scottish promoters Colours already invited to host the dance arena.

 

Organisers hope to attract an 18-25 audience and make the festival an annual event.

 

Meanwhile, proposals are in the pipeline for the Isle Of Man's first major music festival.

 

The Rock The Rock Isle of Man Music Festival is being planned for the island's Noble Park near the capital Douglas.

 

According to reports, Robbie Williams, Coldplay and other major international artists are being considered for the two-day festival.

 

The event's website says only the festival is 'coming soon', however it is understood that a provisional date has been set for the end of July.

 

The local council has confirmed that a proposal has been submitted by the event's organiser and that it is due to be considered.
