Don't you find some resemblance between the guitar parts on each song, in the minutes I mentioned? I found this recently, after I bought U2's 18Singles. I wasn't acquainted with New Year's Day - now I am. And I noticed this.

theres a little there alright,its not huge though,I always thought the chorus of White Shadows sounds a bit like New Years Day.
