Intelligence Vs Success

Featured Replies

What exactly do people think should be the greater of the two

Intelligence means you are capable of answering exams well and getting good grades, yet does this automatically lead to success because you have to react quickly to certain situations in the real world?

Jamie Oliver for example is a dum dum yet he has made a fortune in the food eating world

Authors such as Jk Rowling (i say her because her books are possibly the most successful books to date) have achieved a fortune through their own intelligence.

People are going to University to gain the knowledge they feel employers demand in turn getting themselves into debt and once they gain their degrees they have low paid jobs INITIALLY but then they work their way up

however plumbers and the like are in short demand so are able to charge more for their services such as £30 call out charges to look at a sink. They lack the degrees and the general intelligence but through success in a particular career they earn more money than those who have been in education for an extra 5 years

Also are famous artists intelligent? Do you have to be intelligent to create artwork and have the imagination for it OR are they merely successful?

Hm, intelligence and success don't always go hand-in-hand if you ask me. But having some intelligence is necessary to succeed and make something worth out of your life. Yes, it's true that some people who don't have a high IQ get successful and famous, but is it really this fame a good one? I don't think so. Paris Hilton for example, doesn't seem to be bright, but she has it all - fame, money ... but will she be a happy grannie, satisfied with her achievements in life?

But on the other hand there are pepole who are smart, but don't have enough money to study, to get a better-paid job and offer better life to their children. I think these people are the most frustrated of all, because they know what they're capable of, but don't have the chance to do what they really want.

sorry if i went off topic, but this is what i think about this intelligence-success thing. ;P

see i can make none spammy threads too

it just happens you end up being able to delve into my mind and incorporate my fucked up way of thinking

many more to come

please continue discussing

hm. perhaps they're not in the right mood for discussing something serious. but i think someone will pop up in here soon.

There's a big difference between intelligence and wisdom. In real life the latter can be a lot more important than the former.

p.s. Welcome back, Reilly :P :P :P :laugh3:

Do you know a plumber who is living on bread and water?

i can imagine it'd be difficult to find a plumber out of work

obviously i can't say all plumbers are working, i mean you've got to take into account the ones who are paralysed or missing a head

i wasnt saying there arent rich plumbers, i know that you can become rich as a plumber in the uk especially if your self employed. it isnt the same everywhere though, you shouldnt become a plumber if you wanna get rich in switzerland for example.

i just sounded to me like you belittled what they are doing.

its not like someone's job always tells you how intelligent they are. it depends a lot on your background as well... its a lot easier to get into uni if your family's posh. i'm not saying an intelligent kid from a working class background cant study but its a lot harder if you went to a bad school.
