Nearly 50 per cent of Sportsmail Online readers have voted for him in our poll to succeed Steve McClaren who was sacked last week after failing to qualify for Euro 2008. Mourinho, 44, made his U-turn last night when asked if he would consider taking the England job. He told The Sun: "You will have to speak to the FA to see if they are interested in offering me the job. "I cannot say what I think until they say they are interested. Tell the FA to come and get me. We will have to wait and see. But I rule nothing out." His comments will be a huge boost to Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick, the man charged with pulling England out of the mire. He has promised to take as long as necessary to land the right team manager and is believed to have put German hero Jurgen Klinsmann, ex-Real Madrid chief Fabio Capello and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp on his shortlist. The job is seen as virtually impossible with England having won nothing since 1966 but Mourinho, who steered Chelsea to two successive Premiership titles, insisted: "There is no such thing as an impossible job in football." He left the West London club in September after his relationship with owner Roman Abramovich turned sour but still has a home in the capital. An internet petition set up to persuade Mourinho to take the England job has received 10,000 hits in just 48 hours.
