chuck kottke
Post how you feel about the Libertarian philosophy, party, its defenders, and its protractors here. Since we critique both major parties and their philosophies, I think that it's only fitting to provide a lively debate on Libertarianism as well.:smug:

Matter-Eater Lad
Nothing wrong with wanting the government who kills and destroys to have less power. Nothing wrong with wanting to uphold the constitution and give everyone equal rights. Libertarians are ok with gay marriage, weed being legal, against wars like Iraq and would have been against Vietnam. Whats wrong with wanting people to keep more of their taxes so they can buy food and medicine? Sounds like libertarianism is the way to go. When government is the problem causing death and destruction all over, we need less of it. You seem to think the government should be in control of every aspect of our lives, very communist if you ask me. I'd prefer my civil liberties and freedoms and for the government not to take more of my money so it can fund illegal wars, torture and give the rest of it to corrupt friends of politicians in Washington. I'm fine with that.:smug: Whats wrong with wanting people to keep more of their taxes so they can buy food and medicine? I agree as well. The average citizen should be able to keep more of their taxes. It's the distribution of the taxes that I think is grossly unfair.;) Sounds like libertarianism is the way to go. When government is the problem causing death and destruction all over, we need less of it. You seem to think the government should be in control of every aspect of our lives, very communist if you ask me. And you seem to think you know what I'm thinking, which is not the case! I think the government in these United States is a government meant to be of by and for We, the People. I don't think the government should be in control of every aspect of our lives, but has several roles: as an arbiter of fair play, a safety net for individuals, and a repository for the commons. Although Marx's philosophies have never been truly followed as Marx intended, I am neither a Communist, nor a follower of Totalitarian Ideologies. I believe in a balance between the needs of society, and market forces; in promoting the growth of the middle class, assuring better representation through a system of checks and balances, an impartial judiciary, respect for the Rights of Man, and Fair Elections. The Liberties enshrined in the U.S. Constitution are the Natural Rights of Man, and are if anything not inclusive enough! I'd prefer my civil liberties and freedoms and for the government not to take more of my money so it can fund illegal wars, torture and give the rest of it to corrupt friends of politicians in Washington. And I'm in favor of a fair system of taxation so we have a functioning government, and for a process of ensuring fair elections and fair races for office. When bad characters advance due to unscrupulous tactics involving big-money contributors in their campaigns, then our government becomes hijacked as it has, and the results are unjustified illegal wars, and those who condone torture in places outside the law. If we are to get our rights back, and end the corruption that leads to illegal wars, we first must assert our right to fair elections and to a fair campaign process, or at least this seems essential to me. Matter-Eater Lad
I'm not 100% against taxes, they are necessary, but 90% of our taxes are lost, wasted or spent on corruption. I'd rather that money be spent in Africa feeding the poor instead of in a rich politicians bmw fund. If we followed liberatarism, we'd not have been in Nam, or Iraq or have bases all over the world. The world would not hate us with a passion. , and the results are unjustified illegal wars, and those who condone torture in places outside the law. This happens because of government being too big, if we had more liberationists this would not happen. Libertarianism is all about fairness. Why do you think were against a fair election? Its the parties you support that are in favor of illegal wars, unfair elections and ect. Sounds like everything you hate your side is guilty of.
