During the past 12 months alone they gave 552 tickets to motorists stopped on single yellow lines in the area, which has been described as a trap for drivers. Almost half of these tickets were issued on Sundays. Parking wardens have issued more than £40,000 worth of fines in a 400ft street in Leicester over the last three years The figures were revealed after Adam Krupa, a driver fined after parking in East Street, Leicester, refused to pay. He intends to challenge the case and take the city council to court. He claims the signs explaining when parking restrictions apply were too small and installed in the wrong place. He had parked for 10 minutes while he went into a shop, according to The Telegraph. 'I'm told this is happening day in, day out, and that everybody is getting caught because they think they can park there,' he told the newspaper. 'Double yellow lines should be painted. It really is a trap.'The fine for parking on yellow lines is £70, reduced to £35 if it is paid within 14 days. Kim Pelham, manager of a shop in the street said: 'There are usually three or four wardens out there waiting.' A city council spokesman said the signs met legal requirements and that motorists were responsible for ensuring they complied with them. Saffire Posted January 6, 2010 Share Posted January 6, 2010 Think of it this way: if they didn't issue these fines, the Government would have to raise taxes among all Britons (albeit by a very small amount) to collect the revenue necessary to allow these wardens to keep their jobs!
