You're right, And this is precisely why it's being done. Music/Movie downloaders are considered to be "cheating", in a similar way to how Automobile manufacturers were "cheating" the horse-and-buggy companies. Technology changes things, and these corporations haven't accepted that. They need to adopt new business models, but they refuse to do it, so they're using the government and propaganda. One possible alternative is for artists to simply ditch all the middle-men and accept donations online, a la Radiohead.

I think it's funny you actually believe corporations can bribe the government when it's the government that prints the money and has the power to tax.
